Could Pierce be our modern day Domanick Davis? That guy had three very nice seasons for us (2003-2005). I see some similarities in size and approach.
Pierce is the best RB we have had since Carlos Hyde. Hoping he will be even better then that and rival Dominic Davis. Arian was just special.
Jorge's post got me thinking about our best running backs suffering Greek tragedies. Domanick attempted to lose weight, changed his name and never heard from again. Steve Slaton, looking like the second coming of Barry Sanders with his Juke moves, decided to gain weight and was never heard from again. Arian, an affair with a snowbunny leads to back issues and spiraled into every injury possible. Tate, A promising career gone before it began. 942 yards as a back up in 2011. D'onta Foreman, That dude Achilles struck again 6th time is the charm! Knocking on wood for a long healthy career.
Why after 1 preseason game there is all this hype of D. Pierce? I love the pick and glad we got him. We saw flashes last night of how he plays, but I want to see how he does in a regular season game with our OL against a 1st team DL.
Because we are hungry for a good running back and it is obvious he is the best on this current roster. Nothing wrong about getting excited when someone whom you need to perform shows up in the first pre-season game. Love the way he gets north and south and hits the holes. I hope the OL prognosticators that have us with the 11th best offensive line in the NFL are correct. If so, Pierce will have a chance at ROY, because Lovie is going to wear him out.
That’s pretty simple.. For one, the Texans have literally nobody to cheer about, Pierce has potential to be that guy. Secondly, if you watched him play, he finds the gaps. Texans have had few RBs outside of Foster and even Slate to a degree, find the gaps and get extra yards. It’s nauseating watching the previous RBs run right into 2 D linemen for a 1 or 2 yard gain on first down every time. Then to just do it again on 2nd down for them to allow the D to set up for a pass on 3rd and long which led to a punt more times than not.
Don’t forget about Alfred “3 yards per carry” Blue. Also Lamar Miller was decent but not quite the game changer they hoped he would be.
Man I know it’s early I know I’m jumping the gun a bit but he looks so freaking impressive…His run stop/ jump cuts reminded me of 2016 David Johnson.. completely blown away in one preseason game, Yes it’s super early but he’s been doing this in training camp as well so just had my expectations raised quite a bit just watching that game from him…
Man, I really hope those 5 carries are representative of what we will get on Sundays. I think Davis Mills and the offense in general will look light years better with a reliable running attack. I really like Mills, but if it becomes the Mills show I suspect he won't be quite enough to carry the offense.
