PFF has Stingley giving up 6c for 81yds. Don't know how they broke it down but I don't think he had a very good debut. For someone with 4.37 speed he sure plays a long way off his man at times. Rookie spotlight: Derek Stingley Jr. played 56 snaps in coverage and allowed six catches on nine targets for 81 yards. He did force an incompletion to salvage an otherwise subpar debut in coverage. KG fared better in his limited play. First-round rookie guard Kenyon Green stayed clean in pass protection on 20 such snaps. He is on track to earn a 75.0-plus pass-blocking grade. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-week-1-game-recap-houston-texans-20-indianapolis-colts-20
I haven't and don't plan on watching film of that game but seemed like Stingley was in zone for a lot of those catches.
It was made the pick kind of suspect to me, unless Caserio knows that Lovie is just a stopgap. Lovie hates single coverage where Stingley shines. Stat watchers drive me crazy. Stingley played well for a rookie in his first game. The coaching was atrocious in the 2nd half, both offensively and defensively.
I thought I heard he allowed 2 catches somewhere. Watching I feel like it might have been more, but yea he did seem in zone a lot..
Of course Lovie is a stop gap coach…just not a one year rental like Culley…I mean look at his decision to punt it…you think Lovie is the real long term answer to lead us into the future when we really start competing for deep playoff runs?? I give Lovie 3 years
https://www.nfl.com/news/top-10-roo...l-season-drake-london-dominique-robinson-stan #4 Derek Stingley Jr. CB · Round 1 (No. 3) Houston Texans KEY WEEK 1 METRICS: 90 defensive snaps (tied with teammate Jalen Pitre for most among rookies), with 49 coverage snaps 5 targets as nearest defender, with 2 receptions, 29 receiving yards, 0 TDs and a 59.6 passer rating allowed; 1 pass defensed -17.8 percent catch rate over expected allowed as nearest defender 60.0 percent coverage success rate 0.6 yards allowed per coverage snap WEEK 1 OVERALL SCORE: 73 Like Pitre, Stingley's efforts were vital to Houston avoiding a loss in Week 1. Stingley's lone pass breakup came on an extremely important play, as he showed off his pristine change-of-direction skills by locking up Colts rookie receiver Alec Pierce in a third-and-goal situation that forced Indy to settle for a field goal. Between Stingley and Pitre, Houston might have the foundation of its secondary set for a long time.
Whatever his score is this week it won’t be good. He got burnt several times, numerous PIs, got turned around on one completion and fell down on what should have been another. He’s a rookie and I’m rooting for him. Hopefully this will be a learning game and improvement will come.
One thing is sure opposing OCs are coming after Stingley. He will have to prove to the league that he can shut down his side of the field. Hate to be that guy, but Sauce Gardner is looking awesome so far. Nothing to glean one way or the other just an observation.
Yeah its not a big deal just something I noticed. Im sure the further away from injury Stingley gets the better he will look. Sauce has graded out far higher so far, but its not some sort of concern for me either.
