I’m surprised the Cubs or another team didn’t make an offer to get Whitley. Huge risk but huge reward. Or I wonder if the Astros were opposed to moving him
Hunter Brown's final line: 5.1 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 9 K Both hits came in the 7th, both walks came in the 9th, one of those walks turned into a run after he left the game.
It would be really dumb to burn Abreu's final option by sending him down this late in the season when he has been with the club the whole season and has 4 years of team control left.
They could send down Martinez for Lance, and bring Brown up for expanded rosters in September. Hunter Brown throwing a 95 mph slider in the World Series would be a nice kickstart to his 2023 AL ROY candidacy.
Yes, that would be the way to do it. Martinez goes down when McCullers comes up. Then add Brown in September.
Hasn't he already been down earlier this year? I thought it would be good to let him work on his command. Anyway, yes, one of the 2 extra roster spots for Brown would be a good idea. Forgot about that. Perfect for Brown.
From what I know, you have to go to the AAA box score webpage and manually copy the game ID included at the end of the URL. You then go to a MLB score on Savant and paste over the game ID with the one that you previously saved. Here is Savant box score for the game tonight: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?gamePk= 664654
Guys have issues seeing the ball out of his hand which is what you want to see. Nice depth to his slider and had a plus change up as well. Sick. He should get some September action. I love Yanier's approach. He loves to take pitches to right field, something our development team preaches. Here is Justin Dirden doing the same thing. This guy may have the best swing in our system. Super quiet body and just very balanced. He is one to watch. Astros have done a really good job with their young guys keeping that front hip closed as long as possible. Some may scoff at that, but its something you have to really work on if you are going to drive power to the opposite way.
Agreed, but he's apparently become the guy who most folks have been rooting for him to fail this season, so this would be a cause for them to celebrate.
Drew Gilbert going off in the FCL is nice to see. He is our little pocket Bryce Harper. Same attitude. Really hoping this guy flies through our ranks. Hoping he gets to play a few games in the PCL with his EV stats. Might challenge a 500 plus homerun. Had he hit this well last year and repeated, he would have been a top 10 guy in this draft. Not sure why he even lasted that late even though this was his first real breakout year. The trend improvement from one year to the next was pretty staggering.
A watched pot never boils and a watched Pedro Leon always strikes out (even though he has drastically cut his K rate).
So looking at the box score this morning, it seems he pitched another 2/3rd of an inning and gave up 2 hits. Not sure if he got gassed or if they just pulled him based on pitch count or what. But definitely a performance to build on.
I was expecting Odorizzi to get traded for a prospect to open up room for Brown. With Maton pitching well lately and adding Smith, it is going to be tough getting Brown up without an injury before September.
Looking ahead to next season, these are the prospects I think have a chance to jump into Top 100 territory by mid-2023: Yainer Diaz (at risk of graduation) Pedro Leon (at risk of graduation) Drew Gilbert Colin Barber Other guys with a very slim chance: Jacob Melton, Cristian Gonzalez, Kenni Gomez, Luis Baez, Ryan Clifford, Alex Santos
