That had everything to do with keeping bats in the lineup and nothing to do with defense. There might be, just maybe, a reason they only put him in CF in the NL park
I hope Whitley can stay healthy and finally put it all together. It's been a crazy ride for him, I am rooting so hard for him. But at this point, my expectations are close to zero, and anything he does for us (if he is called up) is a pleasant surprise.
Yeah… Kenni Gomez just recently turned 17 years old. He also has grown 2-3 inches in the last year. He has gone from a short and slow 15 year old to about 6’0” at 17 and his frame has really broadened. He could end up being a flameout like anyone at that age, but he has a lot working for him.
I don’t think he will be called up, but the raw numbers mean little to them. If their scouts/player development people tell Click that Leon is ready, he will in MMP by the next morning. I don’t think there is an organization that trusts their player development staff more than the Astros.
There are plenty of guys on the forty that will be DFA'd anyway and with the trade deadline behind us there is no reason to continue to protect them.
Diaz and Leon are getting very interesting. Not gonna be up this season, but both guys should get fringe Top 100 love this offseason and are definitely potential core pieces.
Miguel Ullola didn't allow a hit... but he allowed three runs, walked seven, and struck out three in 2.1 innings for Fayetteville. Ullola entered this game with 28 walks and now has 35, so 20% of the walks he's issued this season came tonight. Valente Bellozo with a nice relief outing: 4 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Hunter Brown is dealing, got to imagine it’s frustrating for him not getting a call up. There’s no room though, team will already be making tough decision sending down Martinez to call up Lance.
They could play Alvarez at DH in AL. Though, they were perfectly happy to play him in CF to get another bat in the game.
The ability is there and the raw tools. He just isn’t terribly interested. I could see them try and have him play first and catcher 30-40 games…. He reminds me a lot of Santana with the Indians from about a decade ago. He needs an agent to explain to him if he plays first he will probably make 50 million in his career… if he catches he could make 200 million.
Walked his first two in the 9th (6th inning for him) after not walking anyone in the first 5. I would bring him up as a 3-4 inning pitcher to get him acclimated, and then build him up next year.
