Where can we get a timely box score? I can't even find out if the Space Cowboys won last night. Everything is just MERCHANDISE and no baseball info.
The season doesn’t start until April. Here is the link to the box scores: https://www.milb.com/scores
I’m very surprised we haven’t seen more minor league players released. The Astros appear to be fielding 2 teams in each of the complex leagues which will dramatically reduce the roster logjam, but there still appear to be about 25 players too many in the system.
This will be the third year in a row, and I put the number at thirty five last season before the international players got added.
Perry is the only major surprise there. He was a sleeper pick of mine for the last few years, although a lot of my optimism was based on Luhnow’s track record with HS draftees more than anything Perry did. Otherwise most of those guys entered the year projecting to be released. Elian Rodriguez was always a disappointment due to getting a big bonus. Freure is the highest 2018 Astros draftee to be released. Breakdown of draftees since 2012 remaining in the system by year: 2012: 1 2013: 0 2014: 1 2015: 2 2016: 7 2017: 11 2018: 17 2019: 22 2020: 4 2021: 17
https://www.mlb.com/news/astros-top-30-prospects-list-2022-preseason No major notes/surprises. Lots of velo mentions for their pitching prospects: 99: Brown, Whitley, Dubin, Tamarez 98: McDermott 96: Solomon, Santos, Arrighetti 95: Melendez, Ivey, Endersby 93: Bermudez
Tellit beat me to it, but I'm a little surprised Norel got traded. Old bat 1st guys that are more good than great bats in minors usually don't get traded.
Marlins must have a close eye on Houston’s farm. Not only did they trade for a relatively unheralded prospect in Bryan De La Cruz in the Yimi Garcia trade, they traded for C Lorenzo Quintana, another older unheralded prospect.
As far as I can tell the new CBA didn’t change the total player limit in farm systems, so teams can carry a maximum of 180 players in their farm during the season (this doesn’t include players in the Dominican complexes). Houston doesn’t appear to be much over that limit (it is hard to know since we can’t know which DSL players have been brought over to the Florida complex until those rosters are updated), so for now yesterdays group of releases may be all we see prior to opening day.
A little older, and a slow bat. The Marlins scout Cubans closely so they must think he can hit well enough to stick around.
