Thanks but no. Lots of space to have to store, but no money at all in those sets. Was it the diamondback or the mongoose that had the mono shock?
Good, because I wasn't going to give them to you. **** money, this is childhood. Money's cheap. Had both, don't remember much difference. I think the Mongoose was the better of the 2.
Sandy Gaston hit his 5th home run of the year for the DSL Blue team. Feels like it's been some time since the Astros had someone make a pro debut from the Dominican as loudly as Gaston has.
Still firmly in small sample territory but the early returns on Yainer Diaz in AAA and Kenedy Corona in High A are very encouraging.
Nunez, Gaston, and Luciano all crossed the 50 pa threshold and have come out of the gate extremely strong. 8 DSL hitters have a wRC+ of 110 or higher (min 50 pa).
I think we are close to a Diaz call up. Maybe another 2-4 weeks of current trends holding. He just potentially solves too many problems.
I will be very surprised if they call Diaz up anytime before the deadline. They may indeed call him up later this season but not before he reaches 150+ pa in AAA and not before the fully vet trade options. He is not a highly regarded defensive C so there’s almost no chance they call him up at the expense of Castro, taking the risk that Maldy gets hurt and they are relying on a weak defensive rookie C for the playoffs.
I think that if he gets called up it will be to replace our injured LF/bench batter. No word on Brantley so far, but I got a bad feelin. Diaz can float between 1st base, DH, Bench Bat. and third catcher. If Mike is OK he still may be used to replace Matijevoc and fill those same needs. Unfortunately I really do not see JJ sticking.
I see both as use em or lose em players. Both will be rule 5 exposed and potentially lost if not added to the 40 man roster. I would add Diaz and take my chances on Corona.
You're probably right and this mindset of Click's is one reason why the Stros won't be winning a championship this season. They have to upgrade the catcher position if they want to win a championship this season. I'm not talking about adding a star catcher. I'm talking about a catcher that can hit .225-.235. A .75-.85 improvement in ba. That and the fact that Dusty hasn't won a championship in 30 years should tell you odds are against him winning one this year. It's really kind of sad watching what Luhnow built being wasted. Maybe Click will make upgrades and the team will be able to overcome Dusty's ineptness. But I won't be holding my breath.
Until they are eliminated I can't go along with that thinking. They could, should, and hopefully do win the World Series this year. And I am very happy with most of Click's moves. Give him 5 more weeks to see if he makes the 2 or 3 small to medium moves needed to upgrade this roster into a juggernaut
Castro is done and will not finish the season with the team. They will likely address the issue by trading for some relatively high floor, low ceiling journeyman catcher who is at least playable at this level. Would be exciting though to see someone like Diaz get a shot if he stays hot considering that his blocking/throwing has been adequate so far.
With Brantley headed to the Dl this would be a perfect time to check the Price tag on Andrew Benintendi. Also give JJ a shot in LF
Forrest Whitley threw 3 innings for Fayetteville, recording 5 K while allowing zero baserunners. 24/37 pitches were strikes.
