No left field is the "big" part of the park, 326 to left and 373 to center, once you go past center then you start getting to the little league dimensions.
Jordan Brewer with two more homers today, giving him 3 on the season. Will Wagner (3, 3-run) and Zach Daniels (2, 2-run) also homered for Asheville. Joey Loperfido hit his first and second homers of the year for Fayetteville.
Jose Betances closed out Fayetteville's 8-4 win over Salem with a two-inning save... all six outs he recorded came via strikeout. Betances signed for $285K out of the Dominican on July 2, 2018. Big arm with bouts of wildness, which is a description used on thousands of minor leaguers. He's now up to 10 strikeouts and 7 walks in 5.2 innings of work so far.
I remember he was described as a potetial fast mover when signed, which seems to inevitably mean a multi year stint in the DSL. Fortunately, Luis Garcia moved a little quicker.
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/monday-prospect-notes-4-18-2022/ Brewer’s start to the 2022 season is what it would look like on paper if that was actually happening [i.e., things clicking - note added] . Slightly more at the link on Brewer.
Cody Orr hit his first homer of the year for Fayetteville. Zack Matthews didn't allow a hit... but he walked five and only lasted three innings. 58 pitches (26 strikes) and three strikeouts for Matthews, who signed as an undrafted free agent out of OU after the 2020 draft. And Jayson Schroeder just put two runs on Matthews' line.
Misael Tamarez fought his control through his 3.1 innings for Corpus: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K Both of the runs charged to him were inherited runners that scored off Matt Ruppenthal.
A two-run homer marred what was a solid night for Alfredi Jimenez: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 unearned runs (error by Chad Stevens), 6 K Asheville trails Jersey Shore 7-6 heading into the 9th. Will Wagner went 3-5 with a triple and 3 RBI. Michael Sandle chipped in with a couple of hits and an RBI.
Adrian Chaidez has a perfect game thru 6 innings with 9 k’s for Asheville. He’s only thrown 62 pitches. He is off to an extremely good start and between that and the chatter about him in spring training, his stock is going up quickly.
