Logan Cerny with another HR. LFG! His power/speed/defense combo means all he has to do is manage the k’s and he will be a very valuable player. Looking like an absolute steal so far. Between Diaz and Cerny, Click is looking money at stealing prospects from other teams so far.

Luke Berryhill just hit his first homer of the year for Corpus.

Asheville got whacked 11-0 in a game where J.C. Correa made his first career appearance as a catcher.

Second, since I believe he played C on Sunday. Still, this is the first I've heard of him playing catcher. Was this previously discussed and something I missed? Interesting development.

Yes, it came out via social media just prior to spring training.

Good 2022 debut for P Ryan Gusto who was a major sleeper pick of mine prior to 2020 but ended up having a major injury so he hasn’t pitched since 2019. Tonight he went 4.2 ip 1 er 6k 2bb.

Jose Bravo threw a good game for Corpus: 5 ip 1er 0bb 4k.

Cesar Salazar went 4-5 with a dinger; I think he will play in the majors.

Hunter Brown came on in relief in sugar land and threw a gem.

Hunter Brown allowed five hits (all singles) and struck out seven over the final five innings for Sugar Land.

Huge performance by Brown. Maybe he’s making the next step.

Anyone know why he didn’t start the game?

This happened last year. Storey (Sugar Land manager) would use starters as long relievers if needed all the time. Don't read into this at all. He's 100% being developed as a starter.

JJ homered again, he's having a great start to the season. Berryhill, though, was in reference to other teams' prospects that Click has grabbed in trades, and who thrived here. Hopefully Matijevic keeps hitting well and cuts down the Ks. Could be the future at 1B if Gurriel doesn't re-sign. He's been somewhat of a late bloomer but has really turned things around.

Thanks. Yeah I figured it was just some idiosyncrasy of the manager but was wondering if there was some strategy behind it like piggybacking.

So if Brown keeps dominating when does he come up and who does he replace?

I think they keep him until around June at the least, for service time purposes (I don't think anything big changed with the CBA, despite the push from the Union). Odorizzi is the obvious person to boot from the rotation.

I agree that it will likely be Odorizzi but I thought he would be traded earlier this year and he’s still here. They obviously have the resources though to move him if they get desperate enough.

7-8 more 4+ Inning appearances like this, and he’ll start getting major hype and be in line for a promotion. But I think it’d take a long term injury or serious underperformance for it to happen before July. There may already be a SP glut in Houston without Brown if McCullers comes back and everybody else is healthy and throwing well.

I really don't see Odorizzi being traded. He's a decent pitcher, and Astros appear to have budget to pay his salary and not hinder moves. The Astros depended on Peacock and he who shall not be named for a significant chunk of 2017 to keep the Astros going. Odds are good Odorizzi either starts a lot of games or gets hurt while starting. Though, I think he would be a better reliever at this point.

Is it possible they didn’t start Brown in preparation of having him being a tandem guy when he’s ready for a call up. Assuming McCullers replaces Odorizzi and there’s 5 guys in the rotation. Having Brown come in for 4 innings after Garcia or Urquidy throws 5 could be a good way to ramp him up to the big leagues and limit all the young arms innings.

It’s possible but Houston has a track record of tandeming their SP in the minors. Not only does it allow them to develop more pitching prospects as starters, but it also gives their prospects experience coming out of the bullpen. So I wouldn’t read anything into that.
