Tyler Whitaker draws a walk in his first plate appearance of the season. Miguel Palma hit Fayetteville's first home run of the year. He's shown a little promise with the bat early on in his career and has shown good patience, so any progress on offense could vault him into some top prospect lists, especially with his solid defensive reputation.
Hooks teeing off on San Antonio’s pitcher in the 1st inning. Shay Whitcomb with a HR; if he puts up big numbers in AA he’ll start to get a lot of hype.
Carlos Calderon @ Kannapolis: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K Calderon ended 2021 in Fayetteville and a good showing early could build some helium for him.
Does this start his clock? Thought he was a ways away from the show and considered potentially a future starter
We literally have no other position players available on the 40 man. He's just a body for a few days until Yuli comes back.
Ernesto Jaquez was the third pitcher to appear for Fayetteville. Jaquez burst onto the scene in 2018 with some downright crazy numbers in the Dominican (4-0, 0.25 ERA, 10 hits allowed in 36 innings before moving to the US), but then he basically missed three years due to Tommy John (I guess) and the pandemic. Understandably, he was pretty rusty and he also had to adjust to a relief role last year, running up a 7 ERA between both A stops. 6 IP, H (solo HR), ER, 2 BB, 8 K
Looking at the box score, looks like Bielak was doing what he does best. Allow runs lol. Leon 1 for 5, 2 rbi's but 3 k's I think.
Ton of strikeouts by Astros hitting prospects last night. 21 k’s in fayettevilles game and 20 in Sugar Lands. 13 hitters had 3+ k’s. Yikes.
Joey Loperfido will play as an infielder for the first time as a pro. He was Duke's primary 2B in 2019 and also their 1B in 2018.
