He has a good defensive reputation... after watching Chuck Hayes play I'm willing to accept that 6'6" guy can be an effective defender at the 4. Definitely knocks down threes. Maybe Jabari would win the starting job fair and square.
You are still going to be routinely overmatched at that size. We all love Chuck for his grittiness, tenacity and positive attitude, but he still only averaged 18 minutes for his career. When he started for us, it was out of necessity. Even when he started all 82 games for us one year, mostly at Center, he still only averaged 21 minutes. Chuck Hayes is actually a very good comparison for Williams. His 3pt shot adds a layer, too. You want those guys on your team, but their limitations mean they only have so much value.
Maybe kind of a platoon situation where they're each in that 23-25 minutes range? Doesn't matter that much who starts I figure.
Yuck. Now I guess we gotta root against him. Can't believe the Mavs pulled that one off, exactly the type of roleplayer they needed.
Mark Cuban has done a great job this offseason surrounding his two stars with defense both inside and on the perimeter. It sucks thinking about it, lol.
Kinda surprised Ime did not push for this one, but never no chatter. Maybe he thinks Tate can fill that role? Just seems odd we were not linked to him.
So many ways the Rockets could have gotten Grant. We could’ve just straight up outbid that Mavs offer by $5M/yr or more on a shorter term deal. The Mavs are hard-capped so they can’t pay him more than $11-12M starting salary. Clearly the front office didn’t want him at all. Not many hours left until we see if the Rockets are going to sit back and let $12-14M in space go completely unused. Starting to believe Tilman might just be cheaping out…
Meanwhile, we used second round picks to dump former first round picks (and Patty Mills) Maybe he thinks Tate is his Grant Williams. *shrug* (Edit: what Andre The Giant said)
How surprised would anyone really be if we found out he directed Stone to just barely scrape the salary floor.
I actually preferred Grant over Dillon, but it seems Ime didn't. He can play PF/SF, he's familiar with Ime's system, born in Houston--hell seemed like a great fit. After we signed DB, GW wasn't really a good option. Hate to see him go to the Mavs. C'mon Stone unf__k the give away moves you made and find us another gem.
It’s not even about Grant Williams… we could / should have been the Spurs in this deal. Take back Reggie Bullock’s salary into space and get a first round pick swap? Sign me up. It really makes *more* sense for Dallas to do this deal with us than the Spurs — we have less leverage than the Spurs because our space is disappearing soon. There are really only two explanations: 1. We have something else cooking 2. Tilman doesn’t want to pay $10M for future draft assets
Maybe we just dont like Williams enough to cut into the minutes that Tari will get the the 3/4? IMO our roster is set. Although it is strategically not rational for us to firego the space, the reality of it is is that we are not a contending team and we just spent $200 million. We might just be excepting what we have. We didnt come away from the three years of pain with Wembanyama. We also dont have Mobley or Paolo. You can make the argument that those are better star options than People. We have drafted or been able to acquire. BUT we have (my opinion) the best collection of young talent in the league. It isnt a top heavy group in that sense, but I still think essentially all seven players have the potential to be just as good as Paolo or Mobley. Not all of them will achieve that level but I still believe one or two will.
Nah. If we gave away assets to clear capspace that we won't use and have no backup plan for then we ****ed up.
For sure we ****ed up. No doubt. But just because we did something stupid when we assumed we were getting Lopez, doesn’t mean that we just have to use the money just to do it. Sunk cost. We dont have room in our rotation really. You jnow who Id love though…. Gary Trent jr.
Dillio plays on the edge and try to intimidate his opponents. I like our perimeter defense with Eason, Brooks and Smith but we need a rim protector…or it’s going to be layup drills on our defense
