They have prospects. But do they have enough prospects to get the other team to pay the incoming player's salary?
They got the payroll flexibility. Astros don't want all the penalties that come with barely going over the luxury tax line for a low to medium impact player. A major acquisition is more likely.
**** the Dodgers. If they do win it all, can you really be that excited about winning a championship with a payroll nearly 100 million more than any other team?
Sorry, have been working. The ask price has always been high. He is under contract next year as well.... but also some teams think he still has room to get even better. Toronto hasn't exactly done a great job putting players around their young studs or spending their money smartly.
They have more obvious holes than the Astros to fill. The Astros are holding out for something really good or they will likely not make a deal. The Astros have interest in Bryant but the cost thus far has been higher than they are comfortable with. We will need to wait and see what happens... the Dodgers are improving themselves on paper, but lets see how well it actually translates.
Berrios going to the Blue Jays benefits the Astros this season. We are done playing the Blue Jays and we have 4 games against the Twins coming up where Berrios was scheduled to start. Then the Yankees have 7 games against the Blue Jays, Tampa has 6 against the Jays left, Red Sox have 4 more against the Jays, Mariners have 3 against the Jays, Oakland has 3 against the Jays, and the White Sox have 4 against the Jays. Hopefully Berrios can steal a couple wins from our AL competitors.
We aren't going to over pay...... if there is a deal to substantively improve the team and the cost is reasonable, they will pull the trigger. If I had to guess, they will likely be out bid for Kimbrel and Bryant, as now there are several teams with a bigger need interested.
It's kind of laughable now. Dodgers have all the money in the world to do what they wish. They could sign Correa next year for 10 years 350 million and trade Trea Turner and his one year left of service for solid prospects. Don't even bat an eye at luxury tax.
I think that's the thing. To add a Buxton, Bryant, Kimbrel, etc they would need to outbid teams. Doesn't sound like they are willing to do that eh? I mean our team is really good, but I can't help but be a bit disappointed.
