Yeah, I had a vague recall of a scrawny shortstop. According to the article below, put on 15 pounds in each of the offseasons prior to this one -- and so who knows where he is now? https://www.crawfishboxes.com/2021/1/1/22209244/doubt-jeremy-pena-at-your-own-peril
Baker has definitely changed his tune on Alvarez playing the outfield, I’m assuming someone above his pay grade spoke to him. Working him out at first base is interesting because prior to the surgery it was harder for him to play first. I honestly don’t know what to expect from him.

LMJ is one of those hope springs eternal guys. Always excited in spring training, talking up how he's doing something new this year or feeling better than prior years. Then he puts up a decent but underwhelming season. All we need now is the obligatory PitchingNinja gif of the new changeup he's been working on.
I get that... but he doesn't get any sort of slack for coming off TJS last year? This is usually the better of the years when looking at recovery from that procedure. No limitations. ligament should be sound.
Fair point. It's fair to be optimistic given that it's his 2nd post- TJS season. Think i'm just ready for some baseball. Probably just cynical that most spring training stories like "i lost 30lb" "i gained 30lb of muscle" or "i've been working on this new off-speed pitch" means nothing. Just been waiting for LMJ to put it all together and shove one season.
