Remember when he vetoed a trade to the Astros? Maybe he likes Houston more now than he does then. https://www.crawfishboxes.com/2015/7/29/9071855/hamels-blocks-trade-to-astros
There are literally posts stating that he shouldn't be out that long, despite nobody knowing the full extent of things. There are also posts saying you don't need your ring finger as much to pitch. If the Astros make a move, which they likely will, it speaks to the likelihood that he will be out for a significant (not just 1-2 months) time.
It was his opinion and stated as such, I understand you feeling that people should not try and be experts but I don't think he was doing that. He did have some experience with the injury and it was interesting to hear that finger is not used as much as others (which is what he actually said). Anyway it's over let's just move on, I should have stayed out of it. Friends?
Bartolo Colon wants to make a comeback at age 47, signs with Acereros of Mexican League (same team on which former Astro Chris Carter hit 49 HR in '19). If 'Stros bought out his contract, he might pitch for free.
For a couple of fringey prospects like Brandon Bielak and Jojanse Torres, Houston could probably get a guy with some upside who will at least eat innings like Kyle Gibson, Danny Duffy, Jon Gray, or Matt Boyd. Houston may even be able to throw in 3rd relief prospect to get whichever team it is to eat some money to leave them a few million to play with at the deadline. German Marquez, Sonny Gray, and Luis Castillo might be available but I just don't see how Houston could afford them.
If you’re referring to me, no where did I say that it would be short. I said it shouldn’t be season long for the injury. Mine was 2 months. 2-3 months is normal time frame for full recovery. Not including time to stretch out the arm and strengthen it for pitching. And what was said is ring finger makes minimal contact. Framber throws fastball, curve and change. Only one of those makes contact with palmar side. Only reason I said that is if has the percutaneous pins it will take a while to not be irritated and the ball will make contact there if it’s on the inside of his ring finger. That is all if it is actually a fracture similar to what I had. Seems there is some differing information coming out about it.
One of the posts said pins out in 2 weeks... anyways, I don't really care to speculate much further as we will likely never know the full extent. Its clear they've given him one timeline (out for season) and they're exploring 2nd opinions, but I don't think any of them will necessarily have him back that much sooner. I also wouldn't presume the ring finger makes 'minimal' contact on all pitches, regardless of what he throws (and at the very least, we know his changeup is dependent on it).
I took a come backer off my pinky in softball a few years ago. The finger no longer works at all even after surgery. Pretty sure I kept playing a few innings.
My apologies, my pins came out quick, but was splinted for another week afterwards. But still had 6 weeks of rehab and PT. Even after that there was pain and couldn’t straighten it for about another month. All for a useless finger so it wouldn’t be crooked in 5 years. My whole premise was even if it’s 4 months, he’s back in July. The whole season seems like there’s something way more serious. It just doesn’t add up.
Mine was pinky as well but was kicked out of place and fractured. Have full range of motion now. Did you have pins?
Ranking this roster against the rest of the teams from this competitive run: 1. 2019: that team was STACKED. One of the best, deepest lineups of all time backed by a rotation of 3 aces and a deep bullpen. 2. 2017: Another stacked team, although it had an empty lineup spot with Beltran, and the Verlander trade had to be made to put the rotation on par with the other contenders. 3. 2020: Despite down years from several stars, this roster produced; star turns from Tucker, Valdez, McCullers, Greinke, Brantley, and Springer saved the season. 4. 2018: A stacked rotation and deep lineup, although Springer and Correa had down seasons and there was a hole in LF. 5. 2021: Roughly on par with 2018 and 2020 and easily better than 2015 and 2016, this lineup is very deep. Valdez's injury hurts, and there is still a relative hole in CF. 6. 2015: No Bregman, but the rotation outperformed 2016, with Keuchel and McHugh turning in career seasons. Still a good team. 7. 2016: Didn't have a full season of Bregman and Gomez was a bust. Also, the rotation was simply not very good. Still a deep lineup and bullpen.
Go read McCullers’ comments on his injury from last night. Sure sounds like LMJ believes Framber will be out quite a while. I agree that a broken finger shouldn’t keep someone out a whole season, but I’d imagine there must be something more to it.
This is the start of a thread about the B game. Apparently Daniels hit a HR and a double against Flaherty, which I think is pretty cool.
Very concerning to hear that about Whitley given his injury track record the last few seasons. It’s essentially pointless to expect any substantial big league production from him at this point.
Honestly I might have higher hopes for Martes logging productive MLB innings this season than Whitley.
No, they stuck a piece of my wrist bone into the area but I still lost mobility. Years ago, I had a fracture and dislocation that required a pin and it healed lovely. Almost a full range of motion in that finger.
