I agree, unless he tore a tendon, too. Even if he did, the typical recovery time for a torn tendon in a finger is 12 weeks.
Porcello would be my choice from the available free agents, assuming Odorizzi still wants $15M/yr. I’d be willing to go something like $15M/2yrs for Porcello. Also wouldn’t mind Bailey, Samardzija, or Hamels on a cheap 1 year deal.
If in fact Framber is done for the season(WTF), or even a huge portion, there's absolutely no way we can start the season without adding another competent starter. I thought our starting pitching was thin as hell when I was expecting to get 175 plus quality innings out of Framber. If we get 400 innings out of Javier/LMJ/Urquidy I would be thrilled. If we get that and pencil grandpa Greinke in for 200 that still leaves a full 1/3 of or starting innings unaccounted for, and that's the very optimistic scenario in my book. Some of our prospects could certainly help fill the void, but that is way, way too many uncertain innings over 162 games. You could easily end up with hundreds of innings of over 5 ERA starters.
If a massage can keep someone out for half a season, anything can happen... Good thing Click signed so much pitching depth....
Should have signed Mchugh on that cheap deal. Who is even available still besides Odorizzi and Porcello?
Homer Bailey (35) Trevor Cahill (33) Zack Godley (31) Cole Hamels (37) Mike Leake (33) Jake Odorizzi (31) Rick Porcello (32) Jeff Samardzija (36) Anibal Sanchez (37)
Whitley and Garcia SZN. No need to go out and overpay for an Odorizzi IMO. I didn’t realize he wanted a multi year deal with over 10 mil AAV
I know this may be far fetched but is it out of the realm of possibility that Francis Martes grows up and gets a starters spot. He was on the doorstep before surgery and PEDs. Just curious because I can't imagine team still sticking with him with all that has gone on unless they know something I don't.
The Astros have 5 years of control left on Martes and he still has minor league options. I would be surprised if he cracked the rotation to start the season, but he should be in AAA. However, with Framber's broken finger plus Abreu and Garcia out for COVID protocols who knows what will happen. Whitley has a golden opportunity. A spot in the rotation is totally available for him right now.
My guess is Whitley is busy figuring out how much protein powder to put in his shake and whether he should add a screwball or a shutto weeks before the season starts... maybe he and Martes can share pointers considering they both are arrogant dumbasses that cannot follow instruction.
Yeah... and his PCP... that belonged to his friend, and he just took it because it was late and they had to drive back home and he didn’t want to fall asleep while driving... so he just took some ole stuff, didn’t know what it was... Martes needs to find a doctor in the Dominican to prescribe him herbal life or straight meth so he drops 75 lbs... Maybe get Strom a cattle prod so he can zap either of them when they decide to do something stupid.
