Drafting to the strength of the draft isn't a fetish. It's actually a smart strategy. Drafting for position of need is how Donald falls out of the top 10 in the draft, or TJ Watt falls into the 20's despite JJ begging the Texans to pick him. You miss out on a lot of great players using your philosophy.

Are you taking the 10th best WR or the 1st or 2nd best safety in this draft?

    That’s misleading…
No one has suggested the 10th WR (are you insinuating any have been? And if the top 2 safeties are still 2nd and 3rd round talent then yes, I take the upper 2nd round talent #10 receiver before a #2 safety with bottom round talent.

I'm taking the 5th or 6th best WR over the 1st or 2nd best S. The WR class is that good this year.

Don't splurge on a WR#1 when you already have one. Beef up the O-line, get a solid WR#3 and spend the rest on defense and re-signing Grennard, Shultz, Fairbairn.

We don’t need olinemen. Just need them to get healthy.

The flipside of that is you can never have too many olinemen.

Very true. Especially when CJ is behind them.

Im taking Nubin over every single receiver available if he's on the board at 21-25 (wherever we land). Legette is quite literally the 10th best WR on some of the big board. Guys who in my opinion are just as good and could be available in later rounds: Troy Franklin, Devontez Walker, Tory Horton, and my personal dark horse guy is Johnny Wilson from FSU -- 6'7 240 4.4 speed.

I dont disagree with your value comment, but that view could be subjective to every different draftnik. WR just doesnt feel like it improves this team with pick 1 with other glaring holes on the team from my perspective.

You can probably get both if you’re going BPA between rounds one and two ;)

There’s maybe one or two top 30 safety, 5-6 top 30 WRs. Yes there’s WR depth here in the draft but no point blowing a first on a guy who may not be ranked there.

That said I really like the like of Cooper DeJean if he drops.

Don’t think DeJean is dropping. He could be the first corner taken. If him or Koolaid drop I’d be all over it

Cooper DeJean is a stud who can play all the positions on the back end. Count me in.

Knock out the Browns and hope he drops into the mid 20s...or trade up a little if he hits the 20s.

edit: PLUS the kid can tackle

That’s fair. I would at least look at Nubin or Dejean, if not receiver. But neither DLine or OLine in the first. We have a lot of linebackers don’t think any of them make us better with #1 pick. So that leaves TE, WR, DB, Qb (lol). No TE after Brock. Just sign Dalton. WR or DB. I could see a case for either. I also like Troy Franklin if we can’t get Legette or maybe Thomas. Haha I also like Wilson as a dark horse, just put him in at the goal line and have Stroud toss it up haha.

Wilson is a freak. 6'7 with a 35" vertical. Catch radius is absurd. He's not refined as a route runner yet, but he's so big it may never come. Straight line speed is great. He could eventually morph into a tight end. Imagine if we sign Big Mike at 6'5? With Nico 6'4 that makes us a problem for DCs and secondary coaches especially when Tank is running all over the place.

I think we're all splitting atoms to a certain extent though. If this team is already in the playoffs with a LIttle Giants type of team any additions are only going to make it stronger. Its so much fun to be relevant again and kick around all the different possibilities. I'll be cool with whoever they select with the first pick whether its one of 'my guys' or not.
