Stone hit gold on 3/4 of his picks based on rookie seasons from Green, Sengun and Christopher. If you could redraft again, who would you take instead of Usman or would you keep him?
The answer is obviously Herb Jones. Non sarcasm. But also Quentin Grimes, Cam Thomas. Maybe a couple others. I don't have any hopes for Garuba personally - spot minutes here and there but dont think he has the processing speed for the NBA overall. Hope he proves me wrong.
I *loved* the Garuba pick at the time. I’d like to give Garuba another year before I give up on him. But yeah, if we’re doing a redraft today, I’d take Herb Jones or Quentin Grimes over Garuba, although taking Green, Grimes and Christopher all in the same draft wouldn’t make much sense.
We haven't even got to see Garuba have a set spot in the rotation yet. I don't know why people are so down on him.
Feed him 8-10 mpg at backup center. If the minutes aren’t there, give him all the PT he can handle with the Vipers.
Weird to me that people are down on him. Did we expect 4 of 4 picks to play at or above expected level. I thin UG
*I think UG Has a very defined floor at the NBA level. He will be an impactful backup defensive big. I think there is a lot of potential there for him to become effective as a perimeter defender and as a passer in 3 point shooter. I am still very satisfied with the pick and the investment.
Man I honestly hope he plays well enough for us to trade him for something. Maybe he just needs to be in another team since we have Jabari smith now.
I'll keep that skill in mind the next time we try to run the ball through Garuba in the post and a really weak team is foolish enough to double(or a really bad switch?) him. Not saying he doesn't have legit skills, but I'm struggling to see where he is going to apply the things he does well if he is of little risk to score anywhere but wide open under the basket. He's so far away offensively that he really needs to be almost elite defensively to be able to play and not be a net negative and so far he has struggled with the health and conditioning needed to even do that - let alone work on the skills. He's likely out of the league by the end of the year if he can't even be healthy/conditioned enough to play. I'm sure with the right coaching he could get there eventually but at what investment in effort by the org? I was also high on him in the draft but he sure looks "a few years away from being a few years away"....
