shiiett, I’ll contend that singleton wouldve panned out if only he was allowed to keep using his weed I remember reading he turned to alcohol instead and his game fell off . granted all of that may have had absolutley nothing to do with it
JJ Matijevic is playing 3B for Corpus tonight. He has been really hot at the plate and has a walk and HR tonight. I am sure he is only playing 3B as a fill in since they are short on infielders, but if he could show the ability to stick at 2B or 3B that would be huge for his value. Zach Biermann and Carlos Machado were added to the AA roster, with OF Ross Adolph hitting the injured list. It looks like Biermann, Machado, Orr, and Giron are the fill-in position players who will rotate around the system as needed this year.
So can Crane hire an exfil team to get Cubans that can hit liberated and boost the minor league system? Seems Astros do good scouting Cubans. Norel Gonzalez should be entering the conversation for 40-man soon even if the answer is there are too many pitchers hurt to do it.
Astros: Which is the most stacked minor-league team? the Astros’ best minor league team in is the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks, as evaluated by MLB.com. https://climbingtalshill.com/2021/06/12/astros-stacked-minor-league-team/
I suppose the Hooks roster does have the highest ceiling simply due to Brown and Leon. But the AAA roster is probably the deepest overall (as evidenced by their record). The High A lineup is the deepest in the system, but their pitching staff is weak. The Fayetteville roster is pretty lacking, especially now that Barefoot and Perez have been moved up.
Joe Perez hit his fourth homer with Asheville and sixth overall. He's starting at 1B for the first time this season.
Enormous Brazilian RHP Heitor Tokar was added to the Fayetteville roster and made his first appearance in full season ball today.
Huge huge huge opportunity for him there. If he posts a 120 wRC+ or better from here thru August he should easily be a Top 100 prospect. In this still relative early going, Lee, Leon, Jaime Melendez, and maybe Joe Perez are having the type of seasons (in context of their pedigree) that get them on Top 100 lists. If Colin Barber and Hunter Brown get/stay healthy and perform, they could be in the mix. For now I would put the o/u on Astros consensus top 100 prospects at seasons end at 2. It looks like Tyler Krabbe was also promoted to AA, while CJ Stubbs was moved down to High A.
I listened to Astros Futures podcast interview with Jason Bell, the Astros minor league fundamentals coordinator. Good interview, here are his specific prospect comments: Jake Meyers CF defense is elite elite Bryan De La Cruz also got props on his defensive improvement Joe Perez and Matt Barefoot are underrated
