I don’t think Tucker should be viewed as a potential CF, partially because if he were goin to play center then they’d need to have really good defenders in RF and LF. With Brantley and Alvarez entrenched at LF and DH, it doesn’t leave room for a CF who can’t cover a lot of ground. I also don’t think it’s very likely that there’s a prospect who will be a viable everyday RF next season who couldn’t fit better than Tucker in center; De La Cruz is the only prospect that might fit that mold.
Nerio Rodriguez is the first Astros minor leaguer to hit a home run this season. It was a two-run blast that gave Fayetteville a 3-0 lead in the 3rd.
Cesar Gomez, an undrafted free agent from UT-Arlington, allowed a hit and struck out four over five shutout innings for Fayetteville in his pro debut.
Org went 0-4 assuming Corpus doesn’t come back in the 9th. HR from IF David Hensley, 1B Scott Schreiber, OF Colin Barber, IF JC Correa, and C Nerio Rodriguez. I noticed Zach Biermann and Cody Orr were also added to the Fayetteville roster along with Machado, Guerrero, and Giron. That roster currently has 34 players on it.
Does anybody what is up with http://mlbfarm.com/ ? They went away last year after the minor league system got cancelled.
Enmanuel Valdez just hit a bases-clearing single for Asheville and was credited with 3 RBI. Don't think I've seen that before.
In things I missed last night: Jonathan Sprinkle walked one and struck out five over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief for Fayetteville. Sprinkle was an undrafted free agent from Central Missouri last season. Jose Bravo walked one and struck out three in three scoreless innings of relief for Asheville.
J.P. France vs. San Antonio: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 11 K He is now in line for the win after Grae Kessinger hit a two-run homer to put Corpus back in the lead.
Hunter Peck made his pro debut on his birthday today and he got the save in Corpus Christi's 4-2 win over San Antonio: 2 IP, H, BB, 5 K Mark Moclair vs. Carolina: 4 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K Moclair, a 12th-round pick out of the University of Tampa in 2018, intrigued me during his pro debut with Tri-City; crazy strikeout stuff (48 in 27.1 innings) and also wild as hell (30 walks, 5 hit batters, 5 wild pitches). Deep sleeper for me... if he somehow develops at least a rudimentary understanding of control, he could make some noise.
Looks like the AA Hooks rotation will be Donato, France, Hunter Brown, Brett Daniels, and Jonathan Bermudez. Bermudez gets the start tonight.
