Happy New Year!!! Looking forward to a new year, brighter days, and the ousting of the crooked clown. 2021: The Year Trump's Apprentice Show in DC ended. Ratings were at an all time low, and the people who lived through the Trump pandemic cheered "You're Fired!" The reviews of the Trump's in the White House were terrible, and if he, his daughter, and offspring could be given old movie titles the choices could very well be Dumb and Dumber, The Grifters, and Psycho.
I wasn't around for any of those years except for 2001 and I don' agree with that. 911 was awful but it happened in the last quarter of the year so it didn't overshadow the year like the COVID-19 has. We've had many days where the COVID-19 death toll has exceeded the death toll of 911. Politically while 2000 election was drawn out Gore had conceded before 2001. 2020 started with the third impeachment of a US President and there are many including members of Congress who aren't accepting the election loss and continuing to divide the country including with court challenges and attempting to overturn the election in Congress. I also don't recall rioting and destruction in 2001 like we had following George Floyd. Also let's not forge that this was a record year for natural disasters including tornadoes and wild fires. 2020 stared with record fires in Australia and almost finished with record fires in CA.
2020 started for me at the Hong Kong Airport hotel bar. I had met a beautiful and interesting fellow traveler who also was a Texan and it seemed like an auspicious start to the year. I didn't know that the flight I would get on a few hours later would be he last time I was going to get on a plane. I also didn't know that 3 months later would be the last time I did Judo. 6 months later I would be dealing with my neighborhood getting burned and looted. Near the end of 2019 I was thinking about the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus who said "A man can never step in the same river twice.". He meant that change is inevitable like a river that keeps on flowing. I doubt many foresaw he changes that 2020 would bring and we really don't know what 2021 will bring. Whether we welcome it or not change will happen.
Just last century off the top of my head I'd go with 1918, 1929, 1939, and 1941 -- with 1918 being the worst by significant margin.
Here's to a new year. Filled with getting that jackass out of the White House as well. And the vaccines becoming more widespread. Also, Rockets are winning a title baby. Book it.
Same. Would be nice. We've been taking mini trips to San Antonio, Galveston, Fredericksburg and Austin instead.
Can you offer some advice on what go you through those tough years and how you recovered from them? Spoiler
