One of our staunchest defenders of all things Dip$hit claims to be a "moderate Democrat" and has posted a pic of a ballot as "proof" on a couple of occasions. Once in this thread.
Good opinion piece...basically how I felt after he was elected...America has to basically deal with the fact that it allowed this to happen and take the medicine. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/07/09/president-trump-puke-altitude-harris-353809 A President Who Makes Us Puke—Just Like He Was Hired To Do Donald Trump was the purge agent his supporters wanted, but can he do more than flush out the system? (More at the link)
Trump was no "agent of change" choice in 2016. He was White America's tantrum candidate in response to the political establishment asking them to embrace the "inclusiveness" system of values. White America said "no thank you" - it is why only white guys were once again on stage for Dem primaries (was it Andrew Young who bowed out last from the minority/women camp in the primary race? He was mostly treated as a sideshow joke by the media.) I think it is a feel good revisionist article personally.
Sam, I don't know if you're a national treasure, but you come up with some good stuff for rational BBS'ers to push back on the BS BBS'ers. Yes, Joe Biden will never recover from "woked". Speaking of "wake/woke/etctera", somebody wake Biden ("huh? wha? you shouldn't'na woked me up") and let him know: dropped from the ticket.
I have the wrong gig. The message of these ads is spot on, but they need a little more finesse, a lighter touch on the voice-overs. As to playing-with-a-full-Deckard's post, my dad's "mistake" was making sure his sons got that college education. He should have forced us to study business or engineering. He's a great father, but he's in that 38%, held in the tractor beam of Trump's Jedi mind tricks. And it really does all come down to racism, pure and simple. As a kid, I would imitate Eddie Murphy's comedy skits from SNL for my family in Iowa. But Eddie Murphy's social commentary was, of course, Step N Fetchit minstrel fodder for social conservatives (as I realized when I reached my mid-20's or so). Years ago my Brazilian-born wife semi-sorta-scoffed at me for saying the American Civil War never really ended, that the trees were cut down but the roots remained in fertile soil. After Trump's birtherism and subsequent Presidency, she's no longer scoffing.
Funny, but disgusting since there is so much truth in it. Letters to the Editor: How Trump would rewrite the preamble to the U.S. Constitution https://news.yahoo.com/letters-editor-trump-rewrite-preamble-100043511.html
Wow. It’s sad that they have been brainwashed with the Trump Kool-aid, and I wish someone could get through to them that they need to take COVID-19 seriously, if for no other reason than to be able to see their grandkids for years and decades to come. Just keep yourself and your family away from them for the time being.
Sad and sadly dangerous as well. It is amazing that people are so riled up by politics that reason and belief in science gets tossed.
Sorry to hear this @NewRoxFan. I’ll keep your extended family members with COVID-19 in my thoughts and prayers.
It's funny you mention that because why my father in law is so upset is because we were supposed to go see them this week, and my mother in law called us the morning of to tell us she was coughing, had a fever, and was having stomach issues. He's mad because we said we'll come if she gets tested and its negative, and it came back positive. So I think there's some anger there that really is an inconvenience anger from folks like him, and the politics are just an excuse more than anything to make ANY changes to their lives, and luxuries. It really puts into perspective the folks that have the same attitude but have that attitude because they are going to miss stupid crap like a biker rally or how they have to wear a mask when they go to Bass Pro. Wanting to spend time with your daughter and granddaughter is one thing. Having the same attitude because you don't want to wear a mask to Bass Pro is another unbelievable level of selfishness.
I don't think there is a substantial secret Trump vote, they are all out now. Here is a good article. https://www.rollcall.com/2020/04/23/trumps-secret-stash-of-voters/
Agreed. People are being selfish over some very unimportant things they have the ability to easily live without for the time being. It’s maddening to me. As for your mother in law and father in law, they are parents, too, and should understand their number one responsibility as a parent is protecting their loved ones. It is unbelievably selfish they are willing to infect their friends and loved ones when they know one of them is COVID-19 positive. Their selfishness could kill or cause significant damage to someone they care about.
I don't think they're all out. Just look at this site. According to protestations made no one on this site voted for Trump yet there are plenty of defenders. As far as the article it itself states that there are uncertainties and the author is making an educated guess. ' Obviously, Trump has scrambled our politics. It’s possible (even likely) that his supporters don’t participate in polls, which could be a factor if Trump overperforms on Election Day. Maybe Trump will turn out an army of previously silent whites without a college degree. Or maybe handicappers have overestimated Democratic enthusiasm, and voters of color don’t turn out for Biden. So yes, there are scenarios under which Trump loses the popular vote again but squeezes out the narrowest of Electoral College wins. We all know it is possible, although unlikely." I agree it is unlikely Trump wins but there is still that chance why I warn that complacency is dangerous now.
It's a good piece and the author does hit upon that Trump wove a wave of disaffection with the political establishment and populism that permeates both the Left and the Right. If we're talking about Trump as the emetic to purge out the old guard of Clinton Bush Trump might also be like an emetic and remind people why it make sense at times to stay with the same stuff we've been eating rather than try something new and radical. In other words people might be frustrated with the establishment but to take Trump's own words Trump show why experience matters.
And being woke is just a fancy way of saying you are fascist, right @dachuda86? Next thing you know the fascists on the left will complain about police brutality, an authoritarian president, a and desire to instill white supremacy. It's so unfair to our great and visionary leader! Heil Trump! May you cleanse our nation!
This site is the reason I say there are not a significant number of secret Trump voters, everybody here has made there preference known. The only thing secret is them claiming there vote is based on a disgust of the media and the far left but they are not saying they will vote for Biden. You keep warning of complacency but I don't see anybody that's complacent, you seem to be ignoring a lot of actual data and facts to keep up some sort of urgency. Where are these armies of previously silent whites coming from? You keep talking about secret votes and overestimation but never look at Trump electorate with the same critical eye, it's not logical. I don't mind having these hypothetical conversations of how Trump could win but at least let us look at all relevant data and not just harp on what could go wrong with democrats. You also never address the fact that Trump is losing independents and the people who voted for Obama and then voted for Trump or the fact there is no real 3rd party candidate as a protest vote.
Most who are woke are fascistic in nature and display disturbing amounts of authoritarianism. It's apparent now more than ever and you can't argue against it. No one is supporting nazi causes you looney, because conservatives agree across the board that nazism is bad and too far right (you can't find someone in normal society that accepts this and supports it but communism is supported openly by many and accepted and allowed to lock arms with the left... You see, there are a large number of people on the left with no boundary or idea of what is too far left. You're a good example. You can't tell me what is too far left. There's no limit and it's getting to a dangerous point.
