Look @SamFisher , Trump may be down now, but he is shifting strategies to higher variance tactics so may still catch up.

I think what you are missing here is not that his approval rating hasn't fallen below 40% but that it hasn't RISEN above 50% DESPITE an generational rebost economy that was nearly perfect until Coronavirus. What this means is his range (Floor to Ceiling) is very narrow.

Perceptions of Trump are locked in unlike 4 years ago. Views of Biden are pretty locked in.

The economy isn't going to change substantially in 4 months - economies don't do that. Even if lockdowns end and things return to normal (the reopening thus far has been a disaster though) the economy will take a long time to recover. Remember, the economy is not the stock market. It's consumer psychology which in 2016 felt bad about a roaring economy. We are not roaring at all and won't be for a while. It's not just the US by the way, it's the global economy. And when the global economy suffers, the US will follow suit.

Law and order - again, I just don't see how this could be an issue unless there was a mass civil disorder that really affected people. Protests aren't going to inspire that kind of results. You'd need LA riots across the country. Just an unlikely event.

Now what you could have is some kind of rally around the flag event. A 9/11 type event could help. but it could hurt.

Outside of some crazy random event, Trump looks to be in a very dire position and he's not taking positive steps. 4 months is a long time, but Biden isn't Clinton - he's much more likeable.

So yeah, I am sticking with my original call - 90% chance of a Biden victory.

    • I don't really believe this. I've been reading how the president will resign due to madness/fragility/unhingedness for three years now.
    • Just out of curiosity regarding procedure: he can resign, but is there a way for him to serve out his term but drop out of the race?
    • In either case, how is a presidential candidate put forward? VP? The republican primaries have ended, no?

While I share your skepticism that trump would ever do what's best for the country and announce he is not running for reelection... to your question, LBJ finished out his term after announcing:

This...... a lot of voters get in that box and think..... "Ehh I don't want the poor or blacks in my neighborhood either. **** it"...... and pulls the lever for Trump.

Could there be a better summary of the trump presidency? Any time trump questions Biden's mental faculties Biden should point out trump's statement...
