16 days and counting? Can't end soon enough. The downside of early voting is you still have to listen to these clowns for two or three weeks after you've cast your vote. That used to be a nice reward for going to the polls on election day - immediate cessation of political advertising spam.
Yeah... that is one of the benefits of being a totalitarian government with a dictator and a populous scared of being killed or sent to a work camp if they fail to comply with exactly what their government tells them to do. They literally, by force locked down an entire area of their country and monitored so no one would come out. The comparison to the US is completely off as people in the US have more freedoms, even if they are stupid. Trump and his administration have failed on COVID19 but a comparison to Nazi Germ... I mean the CCP lead China isn’t fair.
will it be 2016 all over again? https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/ VS https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-election-forecast/
Its a sign of trump's growing dementia... 2016 sequel? Trump’s old attacks failing to land on Biden https://apnews.com/article/virus-ou...inton-russia-16c5426b8e3b0a812d87ef8f1bb9dcff
The point shouldn’t be the comparison of gov. We have Taiwan and NZ for that. The point simply is the economy can rebound fast when the virus is handled. That’s pretty common sense you would think, but it’s not. I think many think that the economy can rebound by opening up even if the virus spread faster and kill more - that’s true in a limited way - it will rebound compared to a full lockdown. It’s false in a more broad way - it cannot recover fast or fully as long as people and companies continue to act rational (they will remain cautious and wait it out). Economy recovery is already slowing down due to the summer wave. It will slow down more and likely may contract again with a large spike in the fall and winter months.
I agree. We cannot have the mindset that this election is in the bag. While Biden is maintaining a solid lead nationally in several swing states his lead is far weaker. Trump has a narrow chance of winning but he is very much within striking distance of pulling out a narrow Electoral College victory. On the Senate side it will come down to the wire if the Democrats can take the Senate.
Biden's lead is real - but this time the reason it will be close is because of Republican efforts to toss out as many absentee ballots as possible.
That hopefully is not, but likely will be the story of the election right there. The one big hope is that since Florida will likely be called early on election night, if Biden can find a way to win that state, it puts that incoming cluster F on the back page. I think the big thing will be the fact that votes will be counted for days on end after election night, and the Republicans will try everything they can to win the propaganda war that Biden is actually the Dictator who wants to wants to rig the election after the fact, and they'll put all the pressure of the world on those states to call the results early. That pressure is coming, and we all know it. The only factor we can have going for us is if Florida is a Biden win. Arizona too I believe has the rules to allow them to count all mail in votes at once on election night. If Florida goes to Trump though (honestly as it should given where that state is politically) all bets are off on the chaos Trump and his cult will inject into this process.
Look, you have all sorts of shenanigans going on here. For instance, you have a Trump supporting printing company not sending out absentee ballots to counties that lean democratic: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/16/us/politics/ohio-mail-ballots-trump.html
Agreed. And this is why when Trump and his campaign try to scare people by saying "Joe wants to close everything down and kill our economy" is flat out wrong and nonsensical. You know what "kills the economy?" Sitting on a global pandemic for months, and sending out a weak national message (when he wasn't spewing complete lies like "this will all go away, like a miracle, etc."), to mocking wearing a face mask, to holding events that spit in the face of his own CDC recommendations (the Rose Garden event, every single one of his "rallies," etc.). He had an opportunity to lead. What could have been 2-3 months of economic hardship, has turned into TEN MONTHS AND COUNTING. Real leadership would have stepped up, and made unpopular decisions in the short term, but would have had huge long term benefits. But Trump does not care to be a real leader, he only cares about re-election. Which is also another example of how dumb his decisions are, even if he looked at it completely selfishly, leading us past this pandemic would have HANDED him the re-election. If we got over this in April or May, and had 6 months of economic recovery leading up to the elections, he would have easily won. He has Senate support, and holds the highest office in the world. But all I hear is whining and complaining from him and the people that enable him in Washington. ALL of this at the expense of the American people. But he is, time and again, proving how unfit he is. Trump's pathetic handling of the coronavirus has prolonged the weak economy, for everyday Americans. It doesn't matter how the stock market is doing if you've been fired from your job. Hopefully we vote an adult into the White House.
