    I wonder if this is just because there's so many other things to watch on TV (other sports, TV shows, etc) or if it's actually about the matchup.

    In June, the NBA wouldn't have to compete with much. No other sports (iirc) and most of the TV shows are pretty much summer B-list shows. In October, they have to compete with the NFL, MLB, etc.

    All sports are down since the pandemic. NFL isn't down as much.

    The NBA Finals are on ABC.. which is basically free-tv. Tucker Carlson on CABLE is just about beating the NBA Finals with LeBron every night, Game 4 damn near lost to a rerun of NCIS. The Tv Ratings are the least of the NBA's problems, over 50% of NBA owners are hemorrhaging money. They couldnt find a sucker to buy their teams even if they wanted. Steve Balmer buying the clippers for 2 billion, overinflated the true value for all nba teams. You think this is bad, wait until the fans are invited back to the games. Its gonna look worse than toyota in about 90% of arenas

    No true, the NHL had the TB Lighting which is a super small market vs the stars

    It looks like the NHL might have landed on gold with their recent draft class. They have potentially have a black wayne gretzky in quinton byfield playing in the Los Angeles media market and another black prospect on the detriot red wings. The NHL could be on the come up in a few years time

    Shouldn't 'free TV' mean you should be getting higher ratings? If these Finals averaged what they're averaging, but on ESPN or another cable channel, then I get it. But because it's on ABC, shouldn't it be getting tons of eyeballs? Especially since these games are in primetime, and not like, 2pm?

    yes they should be getting much higher ratings. It’s not like the mlb playoffs which are on cable. Everybody with a tv has ABC. The fact that a storied franchise like lakers with LeBron and AD are on free tv and people would rather watch something else should be alarming to Adam silver

    me personally I’m indifferent to the NBA now. I still as hard as I try can not get over the fact that the nba screwed us in 2018. I’ve really tried to move on from that screwjob. But I really haven’t looked at the nba the same way since that playoff series. Plus why should rockets fans care about the health of a league that goes out of their way to slander our best player any chance they get. Harden is boring right, everybody hates our style yet LeBron and the lakers are sitting on the lowest ratings in finals history

    If LeBron + AD can beat the healthy Warriors in the next two seasons and three peats then I'd say he surpasses. Otherwise, bona fide #2.

    Imo. Warriors still have a dynasty they were just injured this year, especially since they have a #2 pick.
