The Sacramento Kings held a players-only meeting after being throttled at Toronto, 124-101 on Monday to go winless on their three-game road trip and fall to 11-17 this season. After the game, interim head coach Alvin Gentry said the loss was embarrassing: “That’s the only phrase I think you can use: embarrassing.”

“I’m not gonna answer that,” Kings guard De'Aaron Fox said when asked about the tone of the meeting. “On to the next one.” Forward Harrison Barnes added, “We’re not playing together. That’s what it boils down to. As a group, we discussed it. That’s really all I’m going to say on that.”

The Kings are 5-6 under Gentry, but the issues that existed under Walton remain. The defense remains terrible and there are still questions as to whether the players care to give maximum effort. Fox, said the Kings' issues aren't simply about playing hard because it's hard to be lazy and make it to the NBA. He pointed to mental breakdowns that have been Sacramento's issue for years.

“When we are out there running a play, obviously you want to run the play fast and get into your ****,” Fox said. “But it's not about doing the play hard, it's about doing it sharp. So if the timing is off, that's not about playing hard. That's about being sharp.

“If we **** up a coverage where you're not supposed to switch and you switch or vice versa, whatever it may be, it's not about playing hard, it's about playing sharp. You're not giving up 130 because you're not playing hard.”

The Kings are 11th in the Western Conference, but only 3.5 games from being last.

 

So what Fox is basically saying is that there's a lot of dumbasses on that roster.
