I would do that trade, because I don't think Tucker is going to be as good as Bennitendi and the chance to win a WS doesn't come along everyday, so I would go for it.
Alright I'm going to throw one out on a limb. Houston gets Corey Kluber Cleveland gets Reddick, JB Bukauskas and another high level prospect. Cleveland is back in the playoff race and have done so with Kluber on the IL and he is due back in mid August. Kluber is also on a team friendly contract until 2022 ($17.2m in 2019, $17.5m in 2020 and $18m in 2021). Cleveland was also shopping him during the off-season and has made it no secret they're looking for Major League outfield help right now. Houston gets their #3 starter they have coveted who is also under contract which will help offset Cole once(if) he leaves after this season. Additionally, we shed Reddick's Salary and call up Tucker to replace him in RF. I know this is random but I feel like the Astros will get someone who they haven't been tied to at all when it comes to rumors. Nobody heard of the Astros having a deal in place with the Nats for Harper last year until the off-season and I feel like Luhnow will go big or go home this trade deadline.
And to be fair, the Texans ownership has been complete garbage. Bob McNair got a pass for several years because he brought the NFL back to Houston. Tilman... meh
I like the thought of it, but Reddick ain't going anywhere. I'd think they value what he brings to this championship contending team from both o/d, but it could get re-evaluated in the offseason. I do believe, however, that they are looking for a pitcher like a Kluber, Greinke or a DeGrom with years going into 2022/2023. They may even be willing to overpay in blue chip prospect's because of the team we have set till 2021 and potentially on after Springer re-signs. Furthermore, any prospects dealt could be received back when the inevitable Correa departure, if they can't come to a deal. I think Luhnow and Astros go for the crown while they can, to build that dynasty.
Despite advocating something similar to this awhile ago, I don't think the Astros'll want to take on De Grom's Leviathan salary after this year. As great as he admittedly is. Does he only make 7 million for the rest of this year? Are the Astros on the hook for any of his signing bonus, should they acquire him? I can't see the Astros adding a 27.5 million dollar player, but maybe it's a lot less the way the Mets structured the deal? It's not happening. But if it did, it'd certainly tell us whether the team planned on competing for Cole's services.
Oh, for sure. QO Cole and be done with it. Gerrit Cole is phenomenal but we just gotta hope he relishes the opportunity to pitch great in the postseason to increase them dollar signs...
You are right, a lot of that information isn't readily available. What we know is that when Crane purchased the Astros, he took out loans or $300,000,000. We also know that under the rules, the Astros debt to profit ratio has to meet certain requirements which call also limit spending into the tax.
The Astros were trying to move Reddick's contract this winter to free up money. I don't know what they will do this summer, but I would suspect they would try to move Reddick again. We have to think that Tucker is the starting right fielder next season if he isn't dealt. That leaves Brantley in left and Springer in center.
I remember that Drayton got into this a bit, and his Good Friend Bud helped him grease the wheels, but I can't remember what the particular MLB required percentages are. Silly to think that a corporation that utilizes publicly funded amenities should have to open up its book to the, you know, public.
A teams debt cannot be more than 10 times it's revenue. That part I know. The second part concerning operating profits cannot be lower than a certain percentage of the debt.
I love his passion and his defense in right field. I will miss him, but the Astros can better allocate his money. Still he will be one of the players I look back fondly on because he really, really loves playing baseball and he really wants to win.
He could learn to play catcher AND learn to throw left handed over the offseason, thus fulfilling your dream of a LH catcher and DD's dream of...something
What was Hun's quote about Kent possibly playing 3B to get Biggio out of the OF...."we tried it in NY a few years ago, and it wasn't a bottle of wine."
The thing is....... if Hinch on a whim told Reddick to catch..... I have no doubt he wouldn't hesitate to go out and do it. After every pitch that Josh caught that he felt was a strike, he would probably let out: "WOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOO".
