I'm right there with you. Got a 55" Insignia 4K w/ Roku (Best Buy brand) for $489. Been a great tv so far for the 2 years I've had it. And if it does crap out, my investment wasn't much and I"ll get another one that'll be better.
There's just not much of anything other than on YouTube/Vimeo (like you discovered) that's going to be 8k. I doubt we'll see 8k broadcasts across the board for a while. I think the Tokyo Olympics may be broadcast in 8k (I think it was the 2020 Olympics that I remember reading that about, anyway). You should be able to upscale 4k to 8k, though, right? It won't be true 8k, but may look better. I would've just waited, to be honest, but man, I can't even imagine how good 8k must look once you can get your hands on the source material.
