JJ Matijevic was moved back up to AA Corpus to take Rodriguez’s spot. Hope Pena’s promotion doesn’t mean Arauz’s injury is serious.
If Pena's improvement at the plate is real then he is a big time prospect. From everything I have read he plays an elite SS.
I didn't realize Riley Ferrell is back with the Astros. I was just looking up how he was doing, still not happy about losing him given their lack of relief competency, and learned he was assigned back to Corpus Christi four days ago, having been on the IL and in rehab the entire time with Miami. Nice. https://climbingtalshill.com/2019/06/24/riley-ferrell-returns-astros-assigned-corpus-christi. He has a 0.87 ERA in 7 rehab assignments so not sure why the Marlins let him go.
I think it had to do with the fact he was on the IL for a long time? Not entirely certain, but I think that's what I read.
Well, what did Peter Solomon do? He pitched a scoreless 9th, allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out two.
Shawn Dubin vs. Myrtle Beach: 7 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 9 K Cody Deason vs. Burlington: 4.2 IP, H, 2 BB, 10 K
Either someone entered the positions wrong for the GCL game, or the Astros are trying guys in different positions today. OFs Guerreo, Castillo, and Giron are playing SS, 2B, and C. IFs Ceuta and Mendoza are playing the OF corners, and C Nerio Rodriguez is playing 3B.
In Corpus, despite losing 8-6, Beer hit his 7th homer of the year, and his first (I believe) against a lefty. Hope he can improve his hitting vs LHP, looks like he's being groomed to be Gurriel's successor at 1B based on all his playing time there and AJ's reluctance to let Alvarez/Brantley/Reddick try 1B out. Matijevic also homered twice in that game (4 total, first 2 since his returning from his suspension, I believe).
Peyton Battenfield allowed a single to the first batter he faced as a pro. Since then, he's retired 22 in a row, which includes two consecutive outings of three perfect innings.
Jonathan Arauz has homered in his first two games since coming off the IL. He now has six home runs on the season.
Looks like Tucker has been moved down in the lineup. From clean up to 6th in the order. And just hit a grand slam.
I'm taking my family to our first Express game on the 3rd...it would be nice to see Tucker hit another one of those.
Side note... I'm pretty sure his first name is pronounced "yo-HAHN-say." Unfortunately, tonight was not his night.
Getting him ready to bat sixth behind Alvarez at fifth? Speaking of Tucker, he also added another steal to get him up to 19 on the year. Just one shy of clinching another 20-20 season in AAA.
