That is a huge accomplishment for Mayfield. Unlike the big name prospects, getting to the majors was never a given for him. Hopefully he can do enough to stick, even if it's not for us.
This lineup vs Hamels flashes me back to the Express having Jamie Ritchie pitching the top of the 12th inning in a tie game. I can't imagine Cole is feeling a lot of love for this one game.
I love this. My very favorite thing about baseball. The journey some of these guys have to take to realize their lifelong dream is amazing.
Don’t want to put a downer on the guy, but could this be his first and last start? Chances are he is the corresponding move once Altuve is back, which could be Tuesday. Hope he makes it count.
If not then, he's definitely on the chopping block when the affiliates really start shuffling their rosters in the wake of the draft.
Cy Sneed is dealing again today: 7 scoreless 8 k 1bb. Older guy and no idea about his stuff but he has put together 2 stellar starts in a row.
Oh man...did you hear the broadcast earlier talking about Mayfield getting the call when Diaz initially hurt his hammy? Hinch told him to get ready to come to Boston, get ready to tell the family...and then Hinch had to call him back when they decided not to DL Diaz. That's rough. Makes this even cooler. eta: also pretty much puts the kibosh on people complaining that Mayfield was called up instead of a different player
I saw him quite a bit in Spring Training. I thought he would be up at some point this season. He has some nasty movement.
And he just hit a go-ahead two-run double in the 9th inning of the regularly scheduled game. Good for him.
Can anyone give an update on Luis Santana, the 2B acquired in the JD Davis trade? I had read some really good things about him but I’m guessing he’s injured? Please and thank you!
