Anybody ever heard of this formula before. Stumbled across it as i was checking predictions from different media outlets on our matchup with the Lakers and was shocked to find out we are actually favored by this Elo metric over them. With a full roster strength Elo rating of 1775 which is 2nd to only the clippers at 1785. It even has the percentage and chance each team team has of advancing through the playoffs and ultimately making the finals. The list updates after every game is played which is nice. Also according to this list we should NOT be shocked that the celtics are thoroughly outplaying the defending champion raptors in their series. The celtics rate 3rd in full strength Elo just behind the rockets and are seen as the best team in the east using this formula. Also the okc thunder are rated very low by Elo, which only confirms that for our series to have gone 7 games their was some funny stuff being pulled by the league and refs most likely that kept them close to us in our losses. We are another tier better than them according to Elo

I researched this web page belongs to ESPN but somehow the Mainstream ESPN use BPI while 538 uses their own.

No that's not ELO - that was the player metric, you have to click on the ELO radio button

33% chance of advancing past the Lakers sounds about right when u consider they’re a good team that will be heavily favored by league officials and the refs

also, we were definitely much better than OKC...that was a 5 game series that got stretched to 7 because of team mistakes and stupidity

no matter how bad we played in that series and how well OKC played, they could never get much separation from us...that should tell u all u need to know

play that series 10 times, and the majority of them would’ve ended with Rockets in 5 or 6 at the most

ELO is an old formula used to match chess players of similar skill against each other. Formula is pretty standard - wins result in higher ELO, losses result in lower ELO, adjusted by opponent strength.

Team ELO is a good indicator of how a team is performing in aggregate, but not necessarily accounting for trends over time (e.g. weighting more recent play)

Player ELO is more an indicator of individual parts, but not necessarily how they are fitting together

We measure really well by player ELO and less well by team ELO, but that also includes our somewhat inconsistent regular season play

ELO is a historical marker - the fact that the Lakers have a much better record weighs a lot into it which isn't necessarily accurate.

This is why I predicted Rockets vs. Celtics in Finals.

Clippers, not Lakers, are the real challenge.
