Chris Devenski on the Astros WS: “Seeing everyone here, it’s like the band of brothers is coming back together. We share that special bond with what we did.”
I love Verlander. Tenacious and his glare say's it all. He's used the term, "everything happen's between the lines". AKA his response to Puig. Lol Verlander looks ready to throw a complete game vs Yankees.
I will be heading over there a week from today! Can't wait. Hanging around for a few days and then catching the first 2 games.
I'm saying no. The Astros will keep him around, but at midseason if he starts to feel like a superflous starter and not injury insurance they will move him to a team looking for an arm. Right now we need him in case somebody goes down to a season ender, but the closer we get to September, and the less we need guys to potentially eat regular season innings, the less value he has to us.
I’ll take the easy way out and say this is how i feel exactly, because it is. I’d like to see the Stros take a wait and see approach here.
If he's unhealthy, he will be an Astro. If he isn't traded during Spring Training, and pitches great during regular season, he'll be an Astro. If Astros have a rash of injuries, he will be kept. Otherwise, I suspect at some point a team will offer enough that the Astros will trade him. I don't think he's a good option out of the pen. As such, I think there is a good chance he gets traded in spring if he is throwing well.
I tend to agree with you that i dont think he’s a good option out of the pen. I felt differently last year. I have nothing really to support how I feel on that except for what we saw in the World Series and I’m not so sure that’s fair. Adding Cole among other things gives us the luxury of trading McHugh early, but I’m not sure that would be the way to go. It’s a good problem to have. Love this teams depth.
The modern day MLP starting pitcher will likely not get 32-33 starts. One should expect a multi week stay on the DL for each starting pitcher, to keep them fresh for the playoffs. That opens a lot of starts for Peacock and McHugh. The 2017 Astros needed 2 quality starters in reserve. I do not see that changing. Now if some minor league pitcher forces his way onto the MLB roster, McHugh and Peacock might get moved.
