Goes back to the age old question of how much these combine numbers translate to the field and vice versa. History shows there is very little correlation, if any. Brown's numbers are eye opening though. His pro-day will be probably be the most watched in recent memory.
Here's a kid I'd like us to consider if he make's it to the third round... Desmond Harrison, OT, West Georgia Height: 6-6. Weight: 279. Arm: 34.75. Hand: 10.5. Projected 40 Time: 5.10. Projected Round (2018): 3-4. 2/17/18: Harrison was part of the Texas program before being dismissed by then-coach Charlie Strong. Failed drug tests were the reason for Harrison's dismissal. He landed at West Georgia, where he has played well for the Wolves. Team sources say that Harrison has the skill set of an early-rounder. He has NFL size, quickness, athleticism and length but needs to gain weight. Some team sources say they don't think Harrison will get out of the second day of the 2018 NFL Draft. It hurt Harrison that he was unable to practice at the Senior Bowl. Read more: http://walterfootball.com/draft2018OT.php#ixzz59NxUZlKG His movement skills at the combine were phenomenal. If he's overcome his problem at Texas and put back on the weight he dropped for the combine, he could be an absolute steal in the 3rd round. If we had him and Davenport as bookend OTs we could be set for a long time. Of course we should still consider signing a Solder to bridge the gap for Harrison's transition to the NFL and move Dav to RT.
Ya Harrison would be a nice pickup in the 3rd with his potential. Teams will have to do some vetting though. Spent 2 years out of football after being dismissed from Texas, it'd be interesting to hear the reasoning for this. Also he could be 4-5 years older than some of the other draft prospects. Maybe not as a big of a deal for lineman but could be a factor if he falls.
3 high schools and 3 colleges, red flags aplenty. Couldn't even muster 280lbs for the Senior Bowl. Better be confident he's not just going for a paycheck.
I'm on board with picking Harrison at the top of the 3rd. He hasn't had any issues since leaving UT. I think there was a bad culture that Harrison fell into while at UT. Lots of guys got kicked out by Strong. What makes you think after watching Davenport play last yr that he can be a productive starter in game 1 of the season next year? I just didn't see that in his very limited play last year.
Up to 292 at the combine. Lost weight due to illness. Lots of room for this talented guy to grow. If he busts all you've lost is a 3rd round pick. If he hits you have a 10 year starter. Well worth the risk. IMHO Probably not Texans worthy.
From coming from such a junior conference, I really didn't see Davenport get overwhelmed either as an extra blocker or in his two starts at the end of the year. Hopefully, he's been in the effort this off-season and will be ready to potentially play RT or at least be our swing if we sign some vets.
Can't recall if Harrison ended up getting kicked off the team or left on his own. He was suspended for the summer and season opener, reinstated but then suspended again almost immediately for the remainder of the season. Apparently he was in rehab and not working with the team and it was announced in January that he was no longer in school and wouldn't return for the next season. He then took the next 2 years off from football. My concern that he is really only 1 year removed from being part of a team and subject to drug tests. Even then, not sure how strict West Georgia is with their policy. All that being said, he is worth taking in the 3rd. Guy needs to get back in the weight room quick though.
Yuck!!! All Texans mock drafts are terrible. It' like they're just throwing names out there with no thought behind them.
Pro Day vs. Combine Numbers: 5.63 vs. 5.85 Forty 25.5" vs. 19.5" Vertical 92" vs. 82" Broad Jump Much better as expected. His Forty still would've been the slowest at the combine but a little more respectable. Brown still would've been a take in the 3rd with his combine numbers IMO, especially with how FA is going so far.
Something about Orlando Brown just doesn't seem right to me. Is he really this bad? I'm sure other teams are thinking the same we are. Looking to get a 1st rounder sliding further down into the draft. I still don' think he'll make it to the 3rd anyway.
