I think I remember a line about Ryan Braun when he was drafted... some reporter asked the Brewers GM what position he would play, and the answer was “#3 hitter”.
The Cubs have had success in taking the most productive college bat available so it would have been fitting. I like the pick!
Can never go wrong taking the best college bat available. That said I always shy away from guys who can’t contribute in the field. Would have rather had Naylor or McClanahan but Beer is a safe choice.
Yeah I mean obviously he's likely to be a DH type but they've shown to try guys in LF that you wouldn't typically think should play there (Most notably Gattis and JD this year). He has middle of the order type potential at the plate and that's what they're banking on.
PR nightmare. Kids asking parents they want a Beer....... (But before they say Jersey... parents b**** slap them)
Should be plenty of good players to choose from at 66 and 102. 2nd and 3rd rd talent is the strength of this draft imho.
Astros 7 picks away. Siani, Thomas, Baker, and Breaux would all be good picks and are still available.
The Astros wrap up day one with... Round 2, Pick 66: Jayson Schroeder, RHP, Juanita HS, Kirkland, Washington Schroeder is committed to Washington.
Luken has gotten hurt every year but is still one of the better power prospects, probably goes round 3.
