He won't be in Corpus in the fall. I'm guessing he replaces Tucker in AAA shortly and Gattis some time after that.
They have an 8 game home stand starting May 10th. I just need to find out when Martin will be starting. I will probably go to 2 games.
Meanwhile, in the other day game, Abraham Toro (4), Chas McCormick (1), and Osvaldo Duarte (1) all hit solo home runs for Buies Creek. Unfortunately, Arlington's High-A team hit six home runs: four three-run homers, a grand slam, and a solo as they won 15-3. Brandon Bailey was one of three Buies Creek pitchers to allow five runs, but he did strike out five in his 2.2 innings, which gives him 34 in 19.2 innings this year...
Alvarez is listed as LF exclusively. The plan long-term seems to be Alvarez and Tucker manning the corners in the OF.
Here’s Alvarez’s two HR’s from today. Both oppo. His easy power to all fields and his willingness to go the other way are so rare for a 20 year old prospect.
Tyler Ivey got the win for Quad Cities; he allowed two runs on four hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked one, and struck out seven. He's got a 33:4 K:BB ratio in 22.2 innings this season. Jake Adams also homered for the second time in as many nights and he's also homered in three straight games in which he's played; he hadn't appeared in a game since April 25, so he might've had an injury. The two-run shot gives Adams 4 homers on the year.
Adams fouled a ball off his ankle on the 25th, and had to be helped off the field. Nice to see that didn't take away his power. Strikeouts are still a concern though.
Yeah so far Adams has been exactly as expected; huge power, huge strikeouts. 22 year olds who strikeout 30% of the time in A ball don’t have a great mlb track record, no matter how many HR they hit.
Went thru an exercise comparing various prospects' wRC+ in A, High A, and AA to their MLB counterparts. Player: wRC+ in A, High A, AA Altuve: 130, 169, 153 Josh Rojas: 116, 160, 150 (as of last night) Correa: 147, 144, 226 Arauz: 145 Bregman: 108, 126, 179 Toro: 120, 140 Reddick: 132, 151, 138 Tucker: 119, 188, 129 Springer: n/a, 143, 174 Dawson: 128, 140 Fisher: 159, 124,132 Alvarez: 207, 102, 132 Gattis: 165, 240, 138 Matijevic: 177 Marwin: 46, 74, 67 A Sierra: 74, 59 Stassi: 91, 102, 139 Stubbs: 111, 126, 88 Marisnick: 152, 127, 150 Straw: 167, 131, 157 Didn't do a comp to Gurriel (no MiLB track record) or McCann (minor league's pre-fangraphs). Obviously age has a big impact and this ignores that, and I used discretion on which year's wRC+ to use for players who played multiple years at a level, but it is interesting to see how guys match up when they played at the same level.
Dang it, Buck just had to bump the 2016 thread... So... J.D. Davis has an RBI double in the first game of Fresno's doubleheader against Salt Lake.
