Can the Astros Callup Seth Beer, he is a Professor of hitting. The amount of multi hit games. Hitting hard sliders, curveballs down and away the opposite way for home runs. Seth Beer can inject life in the Astros offense right now.
Time to bring up Tucker. Yes, winning MiLB titles is nice for the organization, but the big league club should come first. We need to #DefendTheWest. I hope Beer starts 2019 in Corpus Christi.
Seth Beer is struggling to inject life into the Buies Creek offense. I doubt he would be able to do it for the Astros. His current line at A+ is 242/286/404 good for a 690 OPS. His K rate is okay at 21%, but his walk rate is under 3%. I am confident that he will figure it out, but he will need time in the minors to work on his skills. Any suggestion that he is ready for a major league call-up is ridiculous.
I agree. Promoting someone straight to MLB from A+ the season he was drafted is practically unheard of. He needs more time, but I strongly believe once it all clicks in, he will be a beast in the big leagues. I do, however, fully expect him to struggle during his first MLB call up whenever that is, as Bregman and Tucker have.
Seems like a strange promotion when the regular season for CC is basically done, he'll only get 2, maybe 3 starts if they advance in the playoffs. I guess any experience at a higher level is valuable.
Any word on our AAA affiliate for next year? I hope we switch to somewhere in Texas (Round Rock or San Antonio). Seems likely but I haven't heard anything lately.
Round Rock Express: Torn between two MLB lovers? Posted: 8:51 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 The Express’ Player Development Contract with the Rangers will expire when the team’s Triple-A season ends on Labor Day. The franchise was an Astros affiliate from the club’s initial 2000 season to 2010. Many think it’s a given that Round Rock will hitch its wagon to the World Series champions. Express CEO Reese Ryan is slowing down that train of thought. The son of Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and younger brother of Astros President Reid Ryan told the American-Statesman he will carefully weigh his options for the franchise’s next two- or four-year deal. “We’ll finish this season, evaluate where we are and make a decision,” Reese Ryan said. “We’ll be allowed to negotiate with our current partner and anybody else we want to entertain an offer from in September. “We’ve had an excellent relationship with the Rangers. It’s no secret that my brother and dad are both affiliated with the Astros, and they’re coming off a World Series championship. That’s all exciting. But I have to do what’s in the best interest of my fans.” I thought that the deal was already done.
It was just assumed since the Express are owned by the Ryan family, especially with the way Nolan left the rangers. I'd say it's probably 75-25 they go with the Astros but that's just speculation on my part. It would seem to be an upset if the rangers managed to keep Round Rock as their affiliate.
Am I mis-remembering this, but didn't the Astros out right purchase the the AA Corpus Cristi team? i thought that that was their intent as well wrt Round Round. The Astros owner, Jim Crane, after his purchase, said that he wanted to create a new AAA team near Houston. Then he stopped, after Reid Ryan joined the Astros FO.
If we don't get Round Rock, then do we switch to San Antonio? Much closer and better than Fresno, where the people could care less about hte Astros. Either San Antonio or Austin-area would be great, it can help us grow our fanbase in Central Texas. Having AAA in the Houston area is boring, would do NOTHING to help expand our reach. Though both Seattle and Atlanta do that. Personally, I'm not a fan of AAA in MLB metro areas, AAA can be a way of expanding a team's geographic fanbase, and to give metro areas without MLB an alternative
J.B. allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out eight over six shutout innings in his Texas League debut
It would be bad form to acknowledge they’re moving to the Astros before their current deal is done. I will be shocked if the Express aren’t Houston’s affiliate next season.
Seems unlikely that the Astros wouldn't end up with one of the two. I'm still betting on taking RR back. Seattle and Atlanta can pretty much do whatever they want with their affiliates. They have no significant geographic rivals like the Astros do.
Yeah, I'm not telling them what to do, but yeah, both pretty much dominate their surrounding areas. If I was a Mariners fan I'd probably want Portland, for Atlanta, Charlotte. Though most of the Carolinas are already Braves territory from what I understand. They own nearly all the southeast (sans Florida) as there's no other teams in that region. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but it still appears that RR is favored to be our AAA team. I'm happy with either them or San Antonio. I kind of like San Antonio more, TBH, but getting our AAA back in Texas will be awesome either way.
