Seth Beer has a special bat. If he can play 1st base, that's good for me. Dude must have excellent eye sight because his on base percentage has always been very high since his college days.
He has very good hand/eye coordination. His bat speed isn’t special (there were guys in the draft with better bat speed) but his wrists are really quick.
https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fringe-five-baseballs-most-compelling-fringe-prospects-117/ Josh James and Garrett Stubbs made the fringe five this week, with Tyler Ivey getting an honorable mention. James leads the cumulative fringe five scoreboard by a wide margin. Josh Rojas hasn’t made the list in awhile but still ranks 4th in the standings.
"ulnar nerve transposition"? This is a new one to me, but it's exactly what it sounds like...they move a nerve in your elbow. http://neurosurgicalassociatespc.com/ulnar-nerve-transposition-at-the-elbow/
J.B. Bukauskas @ Burlington: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K One of the runs was an inherited runner that was charged to him.
How'd that work? Sorry, I'm too busy cussing at both the Astros and Rangers, for different reasons, right now to think straight.
First man he faced in the 5th singled. He struck out the next guy, and that was his last batter. The guy who singled ended up scoring on a double hit by Torii Hunter Jr.
Heh, gotcha. I thought you were saying he got charged with a run for allowing an inherited runner to score.
What’s the deal with Frances Martes? I know he’s hurt and has been pretty much all year. He’s not even listed as a Top 30 Prospect. What’s going on? **Just saw the above McTaggart. A 4-month elbow sprain?
This must be the reason that the Astros wanted to Change his delivery to prevent arm injuries, prevent Tommy John Surgery. Francis Martes is too stuck up to listen. I hope he matures, learns from this injury and listen to his coaches, really change his mechanics. Francis could be traded if he doesn't listen or learn. Lance McCullers changed his mechanics and slowed his delivery, this year he's been healthy, knock on wood.
DeGrom and Michael Fulmer have recently undergone the nerve transposition. I think I read that is what is keeping Ruppenthal on the shelf too.
So does anyone have a citation for Martes' supposed unwillingness to work with coaches, or is this one of those things that just keeps getting repeated here so everyone believes it to be true?
Exactly what I was about to ask. I’ve read this many times in here but never seen anyone actually tied to the organization other than as a fan say anything like that
Some complex-league tidbits: - After going 1-13 to start the GCL season, Ronaldo Urdaneta is slashing .370/.443/.611 this month. - Urdaneta has been picked off a few times but hasn't been caught stealing; he's 12-12 in stolen base attempts this season. - Victor Mascai leads the DSL team with five homers; everyone else has combined to hit five homers. - Deury Carrasco has a 10-game hitting streak in the GCL, although he's finished with one hit in nine of the ten games.
Alfredi Jimenez struck out seven over four-no hit innings down in the Dominican; one of his strikeout victims reached on a passed ball. Jimenez, who signed for a scant $50,000 last July 2, has struck out 44 in 34.1 innings this season. Opponents are hiting .158 against him. Valente Bellozo, who also signed last July 2 for $20K out of Mexico, allowed a hit and struck out three over five shutout innings. Bellozo gave up six runs (five earned) in 1.1 innings in his pro debut; he hasn't allowed a run in 35.2 innings since.
Nice to see Javier rack up some Ks in his start today. He’s been a little up and down since his promotion.
