Bill doesn't spend much on the OLine. He traded away one of his best linemen (Mankins) for not much.

It's not just about spending money, also about investing in the draft. They have a top 10 OL and finding value in FA

The national media is creating a perception that Watson is the starter despite everything OB and everyone affiliated with the Texans and their mouthpieces say. This will setup the fanbase for disappointment when Savage starts game 1.

The Texans' (public) approach is, I think, the right one - bring Watson along at his own pace, etc., and lean into Tom Savage in the interim. But internally, I hope they recognize what a shitshow of a circus they could create if they're too obstinate about it. If Savage is clearly better and performing well, it'll satiate the lust - but it's a potentially simmering distraction and they have to go into this with eyes wide open.

I don't think so. Saying right off that Savage is the starter somewhat quells any expectations.

Please remember that if you are posting here you are much more informed than the average fan.

Most of the people in my family believe Watson is going to be the starter.

Conisdering OBs track record, I have no idea who will start and it will probably not be decided until 1 week before game 1.

Honestly it's a fluid situation haha.

No matter who wins the job, they have to feel pretty uncomfortable with it knowing OB's record. Could be pulled at halftime.

Also, it may force BOB's hand given that you have to think he's coaching either for his job or for his next job. The way BOB has completely bungled the QB situation the entire time he's been in Houston will lead to a massive national narrative that he's incompetent if he goes against who they think he should start at QB this time around. He'll be known as Mr. QB Carousel if he goes that route again and that'll hurt his future job prospects.

I think his track record is the exact reason why we can all expect Savage to be the starter Week 1. He has always been conservative with his Week 1 starter decisions and I really can't see him choosing to start Watson (who will still be learning the system) over Savage (who has a great knowledge of the system).
