If the sources are correct then I will definitely cheer for UNC to do great. I'm still a big Mack Brown guy.

I think the years off will do him a lot of good and rejuvenate him. It will be fun to watch and see what he can build there.

It remains to be seen if it ends up being a good or bad thing for the schools involved, but it is interesting that tastes in coaching hires have shifted the way they have.

Over the latter half of the last decade, it seems like schools have aggressively avoided hires that could be classified as "retread hires," maybe even if the coach in question would be a solid hire. It seemed that the schools would rather miss by hiring a fresh face from a smaller program or a hot coordinator than miss by hiring someone who is more of a known quantity but less of an exciting name. But this year, the only two P5 hirings we have are established head coaches who a year ago weren't considered hot commodities, or at the very least, weren't names you heard seriously associated with job openings.

While true, they are also both national title winning coaches, so I don't think they qualify in the unexciting/retread category. I do like the trend of moving to new coaches, though.

What a strange coaching carousel it has been already. Brohm to Louisville was thought to be the slam dunk of the offseason. If they end up with Scott Satterfield instead, which is a name I saw mentioned immediately after the news of Brohm staying at Purdue broke, that would still be a solid hire, even if it wasn't the immediate name that came to mind.

Mack off the a strong start with a familiar face. Brewster is one of the best recruiters in the country. Pulling him after one year at A&M is pretty big.

Rumors are that assistants have historically hated Jimbo's micromanaging style. Brewster hates Jimbo and doesn't even like Mack that much. But Mack will pay him and leave him alone.

Nobody is better than Mack at paying people and leaving them alone.

Reading that Brewster also has a home in or near Chappell Hill.

Kliff to USC was looking like a done deal. Reading Jerry caught wind and made a call. Should be interesting.

When UNC brought in Mack, I kind of thought the approach he might take would be to bring in some younger, more dynamic assistant coaches around him, but I guess the hiring of Greg Robinson as defensive coordinator squashes that thought.

I understand wanting to work with guys you're comfortable with and with whom you know what to expect, but man, that's not an inspiring choice.

Funny then that this is now the 3rd? time he's chosen to take a job with Mack, with the dislike and all.

But what if I hate you for other reasons? ;)

If he really didn't like Mack, there's no reason he'd be working with/for him yet again. UNC-UT-UNC now

Will say both of Robinson’s stints with Mack were relatively successful. He completely turned the defense around after Manny Diaz got canned. But he was coaching some of the best talent in the country. But agree this is a bit of an underwhelming choice for Mack.

Bringing in Greg Davis would be icing on the cake.
