I'm not sure but I remember Rita, and I remember that while only certain areas were told to evacuate, pretty much the whole city freaked out and tried to leave causing what it caused.

This time the mayor told everyone to have a plan, and move up instead of moving out... meaning find higher ground in the city instead of fleeing it. However some people should have saw an opening with little traffic and decided to make a run for Dallas. And some did as we've seen many people here in Dallas that did decide to come up.

I personally think that the mayor did the right thing in order to not send millions fleeing in a hurry out of town with nowhere to go, but I do think that there are many folks in Houston that probably should have still left if they had the chance to get out without risking getting stranded on the freeway.

Its always a judgement call guys. There really isn't an answer to this problem with Houston and evacuations. It is pretty crazy though that (knock on wood) very few lives have been lost so far. Speaks to the preparedness of Houstonians and the city officials who did prepare and guide people on how to stay alive during a flood. Everyone is doing as good of a job as they could be doing given the circumstances IMO.

I read an article in the Journal this week that said that Millenials are more and more concerned about corporations being altruistic and helping people during disasters like this... but they are JUST as concerned that corporations shouldn't trumpet their altruism and that is worst than not being altruistic and helping people at all.

As an old man, I thought "who gives a ****? if a corporation is helping others in a time of need, i don't care if they are exploiting it for marketing purposes. it is no skin off my back or that of the people getting much dire help"

    apparently, they were right...

New wave off the coast of Africa looks like it can grow into a beast, but who knows where it's going to end up. Too far away right now

billions vs millions but I can't believe y'all are even complaining/arguing about this at this time. Get some perspective on how pathetic you are as a person if this upsets you.

I think it's weird and pathetic that you question his intentions. There is no f***ing show. There is no competition.

She is and good at calming the nerves of people watching the forecasts. Kudos to KPRC. I was pissed when their feed went down yesterday (live in California so had to watch local news via the YouTube streams). Glad it's back up.

Plan on flying in this weekend to help family/friends. Hopefully we can move around a lot easier by then

Chupacabra out there doing some work. Legend has it they adopt to life in water and desert, that's why there are sightings of their goat sucking in Central America and western states like Arizona.

    Impressed with Lopez.

Mayor would get blasted either way. You tell the whole city to evacuate and you have millions of people stranded on the road in the worst flooding in history. You tell only people who were at risk of flooding and they'll ask why you didn't evacuate the whole city.

Should also be noted that there were tons of neighborhoods who had never flooded completely underwater. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

Everyone keep an eye on Addicks and Barker reservoirs. Part of the Addicks earthen berm (the dam) has over topped the spillways, flooding neighborhoods that thought they had escaped the worst of the flooding. If those earthen berms are undermined and collapse, catastrophe will take on a new meaning. Keep a weather eye on the news! Water is entering the reservoirs faster than the water can be released.
