Is Arrival that good? Amy Adams is so meh. I guess Mel is back. La La Land 14 Arrival 8 Moonlight 8 Manchester by the Sea 6 Hacksaw Ridge 6 Hell or Highwater 4 Deadpool 0 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice -8 (8 Razzie Noms)
Arrival is a fantastic movie and I think Best picture worthy. Denis Villeneuve is a star and Arrival is just another confirmation. Prisoners, Sicario and now this. I trust the man with Blade Runner.
14 Oscars for la la land? It seemed like a run of the mill story. The cinematography was unique, but 14 Oscars? I guess Hollywood loves a story about Hollywood.
Oscars aren't determined by story, outside of screenplay, which I guess you could make a case against it, but it's still very well done. I think most of the nominations it got are pretty worthy. Amy Adams was robbed. Other than that...can't argue with much else on there.
9 of those are tech awards (Costume, Editing, Art Direction, etc) and 2 within the same category (Original Song) but yeah 5 out of the big 7 categories.is quite a lot of love.
Weird Trivia Only three films since 1970 have won Best Picture without an acting nomination. Slumdog Millionaire, Braveheart and The Last Emperor. Bradford Young (Arrival, A Most Violent Year, Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Upcoming Han Solo film) is the first Black cinematographer ever nominated in his respective category. He's really good.
Based on the odds the only competitive category is best actress. You would think la la land is in the category of the Godfather.
I think Ben Foster got kind of jobbed. He was phenomenal in Hell or High Water. I'm glad Bridges was nominated because he was great, too... and I know it would be a stretch to have two nominees in that category from the same film. But man... Foster was awesome.
Yeah, I don't get why you would nominate Bridges but not Foster. Foster was balling off on everyone in that movie. And I'm by no means saying Captain Kirk should have been nominated, but he was way better than he normally is in that movie. The director should get an award for squeezing that performance out of him.
Surprised by the Jeff Bridges nomination, Foster and Pine were both great in that, moreso than Bridges
Casey Affleck is an actor whose work I enjoy. But, after reading the 2010 sexual harassment claims against him in which he settled with one of the ladies in question working on "I'm Still Here" at the time, the guy sounds like a piece of work in real life. Obviously, there are some out there who feel he shouldn't have been nominated because of what happened. I'm conflicted because these awards are based on the work. But, sounds deserving of some boos from the ladies especially if he wins. Didn't know anything about it when he won at the Golden Globes as it seems to have been a footnote story that is catching up to him now.
