On the flip side, Jason Martin is 0-11 with 7 Ks (1 BB) in AA. AKA, the Domingo Santana. Edit: Jon Singleton just walked for the 57th time in 50 games. By comparison, he has 36 hits, so he has an OBP about .200 points higher than his BA. Pretty weird. Also, today is an interesting pitching day in the system. Alex Winkelman is going in his 3rd AA outing, bringing his 1.56 ERA across A/AA to the party. Meanwhile, Dean Deetz makes his AAA debut, and Franklin Perez and Forrest Whitley pitch the A ball games.
...and then Davis commits an error with 2 outs in the 1st that extends the inning, and Tulsa gets on the board one batter later.
Not sure who, but I expect Astros to begin culling some of the high minors corner guys (Davis, Fisher, Moran, Reed, White, Laureano, Ferguson, Hernandez, Kemmer, and Tucker the Older) at the deadline.
Angel Macuare got the start for the DSL Blue team in their 8-5 loss to the Braves: 2 IP, 6 H, 7 R (4 earned), 3 K Cesar Cortez hit an RBI single and also drew a bases-loaded walk. Ozziel Sanchez-Galan went 2-4 with a triple and scored twice.
This is true but I doubt it will be of any meaningful impact. Kemmer, Garcia, and Singleton are the type of prospects that nobody is surprised to see released. The DH gives another spot for full time ABs. White can be forced into the middle infield. Laureano has struggled and will probably have to stay in AA all season. Even without any trades or promotions, this could be the AAA roster: 1B Reed 2B Kemp SS White 3B Moran RF Ferguson CF Teoscar LF Fisher DH Davis OF Tucker
The Orange team beat a combined Indians/Brewers team 5-3. Diosward Gonzalez went 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. Euclides Chavez went 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and scored a run.
Franklin Perez vs. Myrtle Beach: 4 IP, 4 H (solo HR allowed), 3 ER, 3 K Dean Deetz's AAA debut: did not go well. 2.1 IP, 9 H (solo HR), 7 ER (1 inherited runner charged to him), 2 BB, K
Props for the dedication man. You could put the names of South Texas little league players in those DSL blurbs and I wouldn't know the difference.
Thanks. We'll probably forget the vast majority of those guys almost instantaneously, but they're really no different than a guy playing for Quad Cities or Corpus. They all gotta start somewhere in order to get to the big leagues...
No kidding. I follow the minors better than most, but even I don't pay much attention until they get to wherever in the hell quad cities is. It is good to have some forewarning on who to be on the lookout for though.
We have to be at some sort of breaking point with the Fresno roster this year. Between now and the Rule 5, I imagine we are gonna go into get whatever you can mode for some of these guys. If anything just trade them for lower level lottery tickets.
Yordan Alvarez just smacked a 3-run homer for Quad Cities. It's his 3rd of the season, and he's extended his hitting streak to 10 games. It's a warm evening in Iowa (91 degrees at first pitch) and there's a 10 MPH wind out to left. Forrest Whitley: 3 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Yea I'd say most years it wouldn't be as difficult getting value out of types of guys but this year is an exception. It's such a deep roster this year that there aren't many trades that'll improve the big league roster other than big fish (e.g. Darvish, Cole, etc...) which would necessitate trading the top prospects and not most of those Fresno guys. At best you get a lefty upgrade or a backend starter with that collection of guys. Unfortunately/fortunately we have no great need for 2 WAR positions players that we couldn't fill internally already.
Hector Perez allowed a 2-run homer, a single, walked 2, and struck out 6 in 4 innings as the 2nd half of the tandem.
