Carlos Correa went 2-5 tonight for Corpus. Yoanys Quiala allowed 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 7 shutout innings
My wife was at that game for a work function and paid zero attention to the action on the field. I was furious with her when I found out she could have watched LMJ, Whitley, and Little Tuck but completely ignored them.
11th rounder from this year Brandon Bielak is posting some outrageous K/BB numbers to start his pro career. Now up to 42/4 K/BB in 32 innings. Also has a WHIP below 1. Definitely a guy to put on the list of interesting pitchers to follow for early next year... expect him to start in QC but would not be surprised if he skips it and goes straight to BC.
4th round pick, Peter Solomon, makes his debut for the GCL Astros. He got three ground ball outs in his 1 inning of work.
- Kyle Tucker hit a solo homer for Corpus; he now has 24 home runs on the year. - In the first game of a doubleheader, Jorge Alcala allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 in a complete game shutout win for Buies Creek.
Y'all like what y'all have seen from JB first rounder? (Not going to attempt to spell last name) Edit: looks like he only has 10 IP, still curious to hear any thoughts if anyone saw his outings
It's so easy to forget he's in our system. He's likely to be a top 100 prospect until he graduates to the MLB. Such a luxury to have elite/really good prospects to go along with a really young MLB team.
Either MLB or Baseball America had him ranked 4th in our system (behind Tucker, Martes, Perez). Don't know much about him other than that he seemed to be a draftee that people either loved or hated
Whoa. When he was drafted, he was expected to accelerate through the minors quickly as a pure relief arm. He lost most of last year getting an aneurysm removed, and has clearly needed some recovery time. Probably too late to get consideration this year....but another back of the bullpen option for next year.
Forrest Whitley got the start in the 2nd game of Corpus Christi's doubleheader with San Antonio: 4.1 IP, 2 H (2-R HR allowed), 2 ER, 6 K
Jairo Solis allowed a run on a solo homer, 2 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 over 4 innings for Greeneville today as they won game 1 of their Appalachian League playoff series against Elizabethton by a score of 3-2. Frankeny Fernandez went 2-3 with a solo homer and drove in 2 of the Appy Astros' 3 runs.
That looks like the guy we thought we drafted. I imagine he goes to camp with us and has a legit chance to start the season in our bullpen
