I mean this in a good way, you are an odd fellow. Saying that I really appreciate your contribution to this forum. Have a good day young man.
What I have read says that he has average speed, but has excellent reactions and reads which gives him plus defense.
Who is characterizing him that way? From what I understand he has average speed but great IQ and instincts which make him a great defender. Whoops, didn't read the post before mine.
Davis is an odd call up. Could be several reasons but the fact that he can legitimately play 3B (unlike White or Reed) is the most likely reason. I think they would rather not play Marwin or Gurriel over there so while Correa is out Davis will likely play 3B. He's really hot so that helps, and the move also has the benefit of showing all the prospects that you're never truly "blocked"; if you perform, you will get a shot. Edit: of course, sometimes it takes the guy in front of you taking one in the face for you to get your shot.
I never said he has plus plus speed but his speed is above average (around a 50 on the scouting scale).
Man. Odd how many wasted prospects that should have been traded while at a lower level have been needed at the major league level this year.
If our guys are healthy, there really are no spots for the prospects aside from Fisher. Giving White, Reed and Davis PA's is more about creating future value than it is helping the 2017 team. I don't think weight has anything to do with his struggles, plenty of fat guys have raked, but the optics of Reed continuing to be so visibly out of shape are really bad.
Astros big lead, no trades and injuries. This is the best time to showcase their farm talents, the Stros have been playing .500 or less since. A good time to rejuvenate a lackluster past weeks.
Fwiw, MLB.com has him with a 50 grade on his speed, which equates to an average tool (probably slightly below average for a CF). Celestino has 9 SB and 2 triples in 36 games, so he's got some speed, but I half expect he will add weight and need to move to RF (where he will still be a plus defender if not plus plus). But the reduction in speed should come with added power so there's still a really high ceiling there.
Guys get hurt. Bullpens get taxed. Also, while there aren't any open spots, there are spots that aren't being held down so tightly that a breakout rookie couldn't force the issue.
With Gattis' concussion I'm hoping Stassi gets the call; he's hit really well this season, and if I remember correctly Gattis has had several concussions over the years so the best case for next season would probably be for him to take over Beltrans spot as DH, and if they could count on Stassi to be a plus backup catcher it would save some money.
I find it hard to believe they would bring up Stassi over Centeno, mainly because they'd have to put Stassi back on the 40 man. Centeno has been solid at Fresno.
While I agree, it will likely be Centeno. I think they have an open 40 man spot, even after calling Davis up. And they could still move Brady Rogers to the 60 day DL. So, the 40 man won't be the reason.
