With the way Verlander has picked it up lately, with a pedigree to back it up, he's a legit number 1 to pair with Keuchel. It's not Mike Scott Nolan Ryan, or even Randy Johnson, or Roger Clemens, but it's the next best thing. Like. Approve.
Also credit to Verlader for agreeing to come to Houston. Seems he was holding out for hope he'd be shipped to the Cubs.
Can we go back to the potential opposite result? If Verlander hadn't been traded, or if he had gone to the *Cubs*...this fanbase, and the entire media would have BLASTED Luhnow. Said he completely screwed the pooch, no matter what reports came out. And yet, we see plain as day now, that Verlander tried like hell to get that to happen...and it was entirely in his hands, not Luhnow's. Just remember these types of potential outcomes the next time you want to blast a team's GM. Realize that, despite the best offer and intentions, it's sometimes just not in the cards.
I think Verlander was always the guy. An older pitcher who had ace status at some point looking to get a World Series ring. Someone with playoff experience who could put it in another gear for a couple of weeks. He's our Jack Morris, probably better than Jack Morris but we'll see if he pays off like Jack Morris. Looks like the Tigers blinked, so we got our guy. Nice job Luhnow. Props to Crane for spending the money.
Pretty awesome day! This team has the ammo now. Maybin is going to add a nice dynamic to this lineup. Talk about speed. Getting Verlander is just huge! If LMC can be Lance then it's going to be a very fun ride. Verlander has plenty left in the tank. Great day to be a Stros fan
Every team needs two catchers and we should know as well as anyone they are hard to come by, so I don't blame teams for wanting ours. It is tough to see prospects go, but the team needed the energy and it will strengthen the bullpen.
