Soccer in the Olympics is ok, but it is just so much lower than the Euros, or Copa, or WC, I really wish the full NT would be allowed to play. DD
naw. Let the children play. If USA qualified it would have been great to see the Future, especially since USA is so damn old.
¡¡GOOoooooOOOL!!!! R. Pizarro 62' México 2 Alemania 1  LOLs. Are you saying this because the US isn't playing?
Gnabry looked fine, but needs to play less egoistic. I think the two teams will advance. Maybe it goes down to who scores more goals against Fiji.
So the Dream Team basically saved and then killed the Olympics with professionalism. Combined with sport saturation, the fall of the Soviet Union, the Olympics seems to have lost it's luster and is almost dead. Like the dunk contest, their is potential to revitalize it somehow, but I'm not sure they can. Maybe if their was like an ISIS team or something we'd all be watching. There was almost no marketing of the athletes coming into the games, which is the key to rooting for someone.
^ Why do people insist on bringing in religion and politics into WORLD sports? ^ I wonder why they can't leave their political/religious commentary out.
Well, if this was about sport and not nationalism, their would be no flags, only teams and names. This whole thing is politics from the selection of the city to the games. Maybe if you mixed up all the players onto multinational teams you could say it's about sport, about teams, but that isn't the case.
2-2 against Alemania not bad Although I think Brazil with Neymar and South Korea with Son are the only teams that sent their "top star" this year. Nothing against Oribe Peralta.
Olympics aren't dead in any way, I think you're just looking at basketball and football. It's still by far the biggest stage for the other sports, especially track&field, swimming etc
Swimming got tons of disciplines. Definitely Track and Field and Swimming where nations can pad their medal counts Olympics is big for the Swimming Federation, for sure.
It's still a lot of fun. It's definitely the pinnacle for Swimming and Track and field and many others, but seems like nobody really cares anymore. We'll watch, most everyone will watch, probably not in the droves that watched before in 80's or 90's, and we might get a good story somewhere down the line, but it doesn't seem to mean anything going in. For example. if Michael Phelps was not swimming this year, I'm pretty sure 98% of Americans could not name one swimmer right now and probably not even one track and field except for Bolt. I liked it better when Dan and Dave were way over marketed for Decathalon. We don't get that anymore.
