    My excitement for White intensifies.

    I bet it's Duffy and Wandy #2005vibes.

This will be a very exciting young team. Hope we can take the next step and be in the ACS this season.

So what about the pitchers? It appears that only one of either Dan Straily or Wandy Rodriguez will make the team. Supposedly last Saturday was the deadline for making that decision, but apparently that was not right.

Are the Astros trying to trade Straily rather than just releasing him? That would be a great move for both him and the Astros, if that is what is going on.

Everyone knows the Stros will be cutting Straily. Can't imagine anyone would trade for him. I guess unless a team with low waiver priority really wants him enough to make a move. Seems doubtful

If they can't, they can't. But it certainly makes sense for Jeff Lunhow to try.

I haven't been paying well, any attention whatsoever to spring training - decided to look up stats today: is Gomez hurt or still not 100%? When does the worry clock start on him?

Sounds like Duffy versus 8th reliever at this point.

Nah, I read into it about as much as you just explained. You don't think A longer term investment in Keuchel will return as much value, given his age. By that logic, you will be risk averse to any free agent pitcher older than 30, including the homegrown ones.

I just think it will be very situation specific. Keuchel could have a very Greg Maddux-like career arc... Where the worry about pitch speed declining isn't as critical to overall results.

Also, the Angels have just come off a pretty lengthy run of positive seasons... Without really bottoming out. Unclear about how their track record in the draft and development has been (other than Trout), but I don't see their lack of success being due to them being tapped out via overpaid salaries. Certainly, some of their signings haven't panned out as planned...and that goes along with the risk of signing any player to a long term deal.

Moran just hit a bomb. The kid is making a hell of an impression.

    Springer with 2 bombs
Gomez, Tucker, Moran with 1 bomb
    Correa with a triple
    Rasmus with an RBI double

and its only the 4th inning people!

Foster did however allow 4 ER runs in 3 IN so far

Being risk adverse about signing 30 year old pitchers is very different from what you were reading into my comments earlier.

But it was basically pitcher/Correa specific, as you agree the only other player commanding that sort of salary would be an ace pitcher... but, you're right. I did mis-read/mis-represent your original premise (If anything, i didn't read enough into your premise).

I agree that it's hard to fathom 60 million between two players, but in many cases... It's the price of contention and possibly maintaining potential dynasties. It only becomes a problem if you spend at expense of the draft and farm. Again, those two elements are not mutually exclusive (unless you're Drayton Mclane).

Do the Astros hit a greater percentage of solo HRs vs multi-run than the average squad?

Seemed we hit a disproportionate amount of solos last season and thus far this spring too.

Only flaws I see in the lineup are...
    - too many K's
    - too few walks
    - too many solos

The offense is by no means "bad", but the Astros were mediocre statistically last season dispite all the jacks. Maybe because we were subpar with runners on. Would be great to see at least one of our flaws improve.

A full year of Correa and a healthy year from Springer should help the BBs. Carter being gone may help the Ks while possibly hurting HR. Tyler White as a replacement for him, though, should maintain BB while reducing Ks.

#Astros officially acquire C Erik Kratz from the Padres in exchange for RHP Dan Straily. Kratz has been added to the Astros 40-man roster.
