Dang. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> have checked in with <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Rays?src=hash">#Rays</a> about pitching, but no evidence that talks have progressed -- and only 2 hours to deadline. <a href="https://twitter.com/MLB">@MLB</a></p>— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) <a href="https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/760169017269026816">August 1, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I need one of my teams to be successful. Time to sell some of the farm to upgrade our top end talent.
This just feels like one of those deadlines that came with a ton of expectations, and nothing to show for it.
Hill is really really good when healthy. Reddick is better than Rasmus/Gomez. Granted, he wouldn't fix our problems against LHP.
Giants gave up Bickford and Susac for Will Smith. That's steep. Susac was a guy I would have liked Houston to get as a replacement for Castro.
With the Brewers getting Susac I'm worried Texas is on the verge of getting Lucroy. Relievers are getting HEAVY hauls this year. Wow.
Last minute prediction: Astros get Norris or Lucroy, Rangers get whichever one Houston doesn't. Astros also get a SP none of will be excited about. 90 minutes to go...
Fans always want those megadeals that push us to the top. If we were disposed to mortgage our future, we could probably make this years team significantly better, sure. You have to give to get. But along the lines this team is likely to make, Yulieski Gurriel might be the only guy who helps us given the farm hands (Reed, Moran, White, Worth and Bregman) haven't showed they can help us (right now). Short of landing a #1 starter (unlikely), I am poised to go with what we got. Hopefully, we can heat up at the right time and if were lucky, some other teams may cool off some and allow us into the playoff mix. To me, the REAL expectations begin next year. Next year, the pressure to spend big and fill our holes will be huge.
