I'd put Teheran on the same level as Quintana. A very good #2 starter, which in this market will require more than just a few low level prospects. Dude is under contract for like the next 4 years!
Uh, we had the most top 100 prospects in the league, and that doesn't include recent heavy investments on the international side.
The Rangers system is as deep as Houstons; trading for Lucroy, Smith, Jeffries, or whoever else will not gut their system. Houston needs to keep pace; last year they matched the Rangers' acquisition of Hamels with Gomez/Kazmir/Fiers, and it has been an epic failure. The Rangers are 6 games up and about to add the 2nd best catcher in the league. What is Houston going to do to catch up?
we aren't going to catch the rangers. we had our chance. at this point we'd be only to get a wild card spot.
The Rangers system isn't nearly as deep regardless of what some in the media say. After the first 8 or so there is a huge dropoff in talent there.
I personally don't think the Rangers system is as deep or as good as the Astros. The next wave of arms working up in Astros low to mid level minors is very deep with high upside. Having said that, the Astros need to monitor the market and improve if possible. The last week has been very bad for the Astros, they are close to falling out of what became a close race.
Catching the Rangers is definitely not out of the question, but they need to make a move to do it. They need a good week this week, and with the lineups they have thrown out there the last 3 days, I don't see it happening. They need to buy a hitter and a pitcher to try to catch the division. And honestly, if they want to win the Wild Card, they need to get a pitcher anyways because right now it's McCullers or bust. He's the only pitcher that would have a chance of winning that game.
Next to nil chance of us landing lucroy and archer and also keeping Reed. I'm assuming you have Valbuena traded...he does neither the Rays nor Milwaukee any good, they want young, controllable talent...not a veteran rental FA
Atlanta is not selling, they want to be more competitive moving into the new park And if they were, Teheran wouldn't be cheap
Of all the "rumored" players on the market, Teheran is like 2nd on the list of most expensive.... right behind Sale.
Color me shocked then, before the Braves landing Kemp, I'd have been sure they were in sell sell sell mode.
They've actually been pretty up front about not wanting to sell the farm before their big move to the new stadium.
