Gattis has an ops of 1.076 as a Catcher. What does lucroy have?
You have an option on the squad already that is a better hitter than lucroy. Upgrade a position where that is not the case.

Of course Gattis' OPS as a catcher is high. He only catches against lefties.

Lucroy is solid against both lefties and righties.

    It is untrue

It's also untrue that Gattis is a better hitting catcher than Lucroy

Would love Lucroy here, Gattis could still catch some, Lucroy can play 1B

In the last month, Gattis has only caught against a righty 3 times. Those games were against Jered Weaver (twice) and Tim Lincecum.

Castro has over 800 ops against right handers. Lucroy below 800. And Gattis has a better ops against left handers as a Catcher as was established already.
We are attacking a problem that does not exist by going after lucroy.

Thank you. In the offseason, sure, but now makes no sense.

    Obviously depends on the cost....

But I would add, Lucroy has played 1B also, would certainly improve us offensively overall, could play some 1B this year, and we let Castro go in offseason he becomes more of a catcher

Not saying he would be my top target at all, but if the overall cost of a trade for him made more sense than others, I wouldn't be opposed to adding him

It all comes down to cost. Lucroy would be very useful on the Astros and is a better hitter than the alternatives. However I would expect his asking price to be very high. I think Norris in SD is more likely because his cost will be lower.

I really don't want to lose the international arms in the system starting to trickle up the minors.. For all the talk of Reed and Bregman; the arms have become less discussed.. A lot of high upside talent.

Much rather go with Castro and Gattis than add Norris

Agree with the arms....but, we are going to have more arms than we have a place for soon, some kind of moves will have to be made and it won't be getting rid of established guys just to take a chance on a young one

This makes absolutely no sense at all.

Castro has been pretty awful since the beginning of June.

Khris Davis, Josh Reddick, Danny Valencia, Matt Kemp, Steve Pearce, Charlie Blackmon, Melky Cabrera, Ryan Braun, Jay Bruce

We should get one of those guys^

A little off the wall but I wonder if the Orioles would make Trumbo available for SP? Their rotation is absolutely pathetic. Trumbo for Fiers & Feldman??

If you are going to trade assets to improve the big club for the stretch run, the position of catcher is way ****ing far down the list of priorities.

I would love to get a player like Solarte from the Padres and Bruce from the Reds. Even Pearce would be a good addition, adding depth to the lineup and flexibility would be great. Especially if the pitching market is too overpriced.

Well I will say that the only one I would even be willing to go after is Lucroy because he is good enough to handle the job full time, which would allow them to use Gattis in another spot like DH.

But getting a full-time DH would ultimately accomplish the same thing. And I think there are cheaper options out there for that job.

So I think we are pretty much in agreement there.

I think if they wanted to upgrade a position, CF is it.

Lorenzo Cain, Billy Hamilton, etc some good players being mentioned

Hope Castro re-signs long term with the Astros. Don't care if he can't hit, him behind the plate is the envy of 20+ clubs in baseball

Billy Hamilton? He's worse than what we got. I would go after Adam eaton and put him back in center if we are dead set on getting a center fielder this trading deadline.
