So....there's this: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/r_Ea_szLEn0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> After a Rice football game, after we got thrown out of the stadium for kicking fieldgoals waaaay after the game ended, we set gasoline soaked tennis balls on fire in the parking lot and I swear Aardsma 2-ironed the damn thing 200yds en fuego.
No, but I'd give a pretty good package. With the current rules, it is very difficult to quickly restock the system, which is important. I'd want to keep at least one of Musgrove/Paulino/Martes.
For a player like Chris Sale, you have to empty the farm. Especially when our window is the next 3 years, when our core is dirt cheap. Reed/Tucker/Paulino/Musgrove/Martes is a very tough pill to swallow. But, I believe in Luhnow's ability to replenish the farm. Whitley has the potential to be better than all of the pitchers in that trade. It we can ink Gurriel Jr., we'd be in fantastic shape.
This is where I just trust the Luhnow. He hasn't had to do it yet here as the HMFIC, but the Cards were always solid with 25-7ish year old guys like Craig, Jay, Carpenter, etc...
He also has the potential to be much worse. And isn't just about how a prospect performs in the majors, it is also about having the flexibility to make future moves.
And in the middle, he has the potential to be Scott Elarton. They're gonna baby him for the next year, but him + weights/nutrition could some day be scary.
Highly doubt that it's accurate, but MiLB.com lists Whitley at 6'7", 240. He didn't look like someone who weighed 240 when you saw him, did he?
I wouldn't guesstimate a weight on a kid that tall, he said he was around 225-240 depending on the time of the year, whatever that's worth. He was long and lean but his thighs were stout, wide shoulders, the base is there. He could also turn into a Jason Hirsch lardass or a Jeff Juden knucklehead, ya never know.
Gattis+Daz Cameron+Teo Hernandez for J. Lucroy. Martes+Musgrove+Whitley+Kyle Tucker+AJ Reed+Johnathan Singleton for Chris Sale.
I'd take the top deal all day long. I think 2017 is our year and Martez and Musgrove are gonna be big pieces as far as pitching goes. I would not give up on AL Reed either. Valbuena, Gomez and Rasmus are all likely to leave with Rasmus being the only possible holdover after this season.
Replace Whitley with Hauschild ot Rodgers and I would be on board with these deals. Hard to believe but the system would still have Abreu/Paulino/Thorton and Whitley in it. Also it would still have Fisher and hopefully Lourdes in it. Loaded
Not bad but that's not enough for Lucroy and the Sox aren't trading Sale. I'm thinking: Astros get: C Jonathan Lucroy LHP Will Smith Brewers get: 3B Colin Moran OF Derek Fisher RHP David Paulino RHP Josh Fields Astros get: SP Chris Archer Rays get: RHP Mike Fiers C Evan Gattis RHP Francis Martes OF Kyle Tucker 1B Jon Singleton Updated 25 man roster: RF Springer DH Gurriel 2B Altuve SS Correa C Lucroy 1B Valbuena 3B Bregman LF Rasmus CF Gomez Bench: Castro, Marwin, Marisnick Rotation: Keuchel Archer McCullers McHugh Fister Bullpen: Feliz, Feldman, Smith, Sipp, Neshek, Giles, Gregerson, Harris Worth would be DFA, Reed and Devenski sent down to AAA.

Forrest Whitley has major upside. He will become what we wanted Mark Appel to be. I don't even know if the Astros can trade him yet?
He doesn't really have the bone structure to ever be physically huge. He is very tall, but he is narrow and has relatively narrow shoulders. Being thin is fine, he can still really strengthen his core.... a number of pitchers have dominated with a similar body, including Sale.
Was curious where we drafted Musgrove...didn't realize he came over in the J.A Happ 10-player TOR trade. 46th overall pick in 2011 by TOR.
The Archer deal I proposed hinges on what you think of the big league assets going back and Archers current trajectory. I personally think other teams should see real value in Fiers and Gattis. Both players were recently traded and you saw good prospects going back in those deals. Tampa has a medium term need at catcher and in the bullpen. Tucker and Martes are Top 50 prospects. Singleton is what he is and opinions will vary but Tampa also has a need at 1B. Obviously Tampa might see it differently and you could sub Abreu or Rodgers in for Fiers and JD Davis or Teoscar Hernandez in for Gattis.
