His WHIP the last 2 months is over 1.5. So, you want to trade arguably the Astros top pitching prospect and a couple of other guys for a pitcher who has injury red flags and has been trending downward this year.

You also thought they MUST sign Sipp and that they should cut Fister after a few starts. Glad you're not the GM.

Giles has not had the closer job yet this year.

Yes, but we traded for him with that role in mind and Gregerson beat him for the job in ST.

It's a shame CLE is playing better. I'd love to trade for one of their SPs.

Well, this one is a baseball related question.

Lets start with Sipp, why it was a MUST? Lets look at our minor leagues, who could be our lefty out of the bullpen? Chapman? He is our only lefty in the bullpen and has an ERA over 6.

Free agency? The best option was Sipp, others were Bastardo, Blevin and Oliver Perez. Blevins pitched 5 innings in 2015, and Sipp has better track record than Bastardo, and Oliver Perez is just a loogy. As we only have 1 lefty, we need a guy that is able to get righties. Thats why i thought it was a MUST as we don't have any other option in the minors.
Last year those were the only 4 lefty relievers that got major league contracts, others only minor league contracts.

Now, the trade is not only Smyly, others will be involved, but looking at what Giles cost us, 3 minor league starting pitchers, what do you think a starter is going to cost?

I think your position is Smyly is not a good pitcher?
My question for you is, do you think Smyly is a good pitcher? Do you think he would help us?

About him pitching downward, the truth is that team is a mess right now.

And remember, when we answer these question is not what i am willing to give, it is what i am going to ask for trading Smyly.

Is easy to say, i give you Tucker, Singleton, and Peacock for Smyly, it is better to say what i would ask if i was Tampa.

K and Smyly have about same numbers, maybe Smyly a little better (career) what would you ask for K?

You suggested MUST not 'should'. Now you think he should be demoted, so he was obviously (and never was) a MUST signing. Had they not signed him, they would have gone a different direction.

This year, Drew Smyly has has not been good. Started well, but has been bad the past 2 months. Keuchel has done poorly as well. I wouldn't trade for either until I saw consistent improvement. At least Keuchel didn't have to sit out a couple of months last year with a shoulder injury.

Correct, MUST because there was no other options.

What was the other options, Oliver Perez? Bastardo who got the same deal but 2 years instead of 3? Or Blevin who only threw 5 innings in 2015?

That is why i said MUST because we have no other option

That he is struggling, yesssssss, big time, and is a 3 year deal!!!!!!!!!

Now, if I am the Astros, that would be my position, the injury past of Smyly to lower the prize, but there are not many starting pitchers available, and the ones that are, they are going to cost a lot. If i am Tampa, i am not giving any of my starters unless i get a top 3 prospect in return, at least.

The guy you're advocating for, Devenski, was not an option?

I guess only in hindsight... Absolutely no concept of foresight.

I will use MUST again, next year what are we going to do with Castro? Is he a must? Well, there are good catchers available, but they are going to cost us a first round pick. (Wilson Ramos, Wieters and Castro)

I like Ramos and Wieters a lot, but they are going to cost us a draft pick.

The question is, can we have Gattis as a full time catcher? Or should we continue to have Castro/Gattis combo that is doing so good?

We don't have anything in the minors, so a decision must be made.

My position is, we SHOULD re sign Castro, why not MUST, because i like what i have seen from Gattis, but prefer to have them both.

Last year, no wayyyyyyy, i did not know Devenski had that killer change up.

Actually, Devenski did not even made the team out of ST.

So, since you do not think the Astros should give up a top 3 prospect, then why even bring it up. You should bring up realistic trade ideas.

You suggested, Tucker, Singleton and Peacock which you also suggest that Tamp Bay would not take, so why bother bringing it up at all?

Because Smyly is a guy that i would love to have in our rotation, why?

Because we don't have many lefties in the minors, and i would love to have him on my team. I also like Matt Moore. Let me tell you why i like Tampa, when the Astros were in the NL i wanted to follow one baseball team in the AL and the one that i followed was the Rays. Thats why i like Maddon so much, and guys like Moore, Hellickson, etc. because i followed them in the minors.

Why i am so critical on Hinch, because i compare him to Maddon, and they are very different. Maddon was all matchups, Hinch is more loyalty. I saw Moore pitch before the injury, and that guy had great stuff.
Smyly, i like the guy, the problem is going to cost us a lot. I don't want to give Bregman, so who else can we give?

Exactly. And we are talking about this year and your declaration that Sipp had to be re-signed, only to have you clamoring for him to be benched 2 months later while he's scuffling.

Your arguments are strictly hindsight/retrospective in nature. Hence why you've never had a good baseball post. Hence the problem.

Benched, no, but to be used at moments that are not high pressure, like yesterday, losing by 3, i have no problem with that.

He will get it together, but, until that, no high pressure games.
Now, on the other hand, Devenski just the opposite.

And i disagree, i gave you FA names for left handed relievers, the best names of the group, and Sipp was the best of them, second, i gave you our minors, and we DON'T have an option there.

I don't see any hindsight or retrospective at all. Those are the facts, ahhh, and lets not forget about this, Sipp had a 1.99 ERA and a Sipp of 1.03 last year, and when the others were struggling out of the bullpen, he was one of our best. In his career, he HAD NEVER allowed more hits than innings pitched, except for this year.

Now, that was last year, and Luthnow did what he had to do, re sign him, but this year he is struggling, what do you want me to be stubborn and say, no keep Sipp pitching just because last year i said we have to re sign him?

Now, my question with you is, what should we do with Sipp? What should we do with Devenski??????

Should we go after another lefty in a trade? If that happens, then who goes to the minors, Devenski?

Now, let me give you another example, if we lose Neshek as FA, do you think i would say is a MUST to re sign him? I have to say no, why? Because we have Hoyt in the minors who should be in the majors.

I get what you are saying now. He wouldn't be that expensive because he is not very good. Got it. I didn't realize he was pitching so terrible this year. He wouldn't be a clear upgrade over any of our other starters, or Devenski, so no thank you!

Smyly career numbers are better than K, and is 1 year younger.

Now, there is a red flag, he has had injury problems, and that is a big Red flag and that may be the reason he will not cost as much, not because he is a bad pitcher, but past injuries with his shoulder.

reed, gregerson, plus another prospect and Feldmab for paul goldschmidt.
Why we do it? he'd look sexy in astros kit.

why arizona does it? they get 2 possible major leaguers in Reed and X plus very nice relievers.

I would give up anybody not named Altuve/Correa/Springer for Goldschmidt and would seriously consider Springer. Goldschmidt is a top 5 hitter in MLB.

Bregman/Reed/Martes/Musgrove might not be enough to get a deal done but I would start there.

Of course I always look to bring local all stars home. How good would the everyday lineup look with a force like Goldschmidt in it? Good enough to beat down the Rangers.

If we are going to give up that level of talent, then we should be aiming for an ace...not a bat.
